workingcinderellaman
In talking about the Wind RIvers movie, I thought this might be a good thread. I hope it's not too close to the "historical movies" thread I started. These are movies that are not really historically significant but true nonetheless. I love movies, and I really love it when movies are based on true events or better yet, true stories. It gives the movie more credibility even though in many cases, fact is stranger than fiction. One of my favorites: http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/5/5b/Poster.jpg/300px-Poster.jpg
workingcinderellaman
And many movies aren't based on a particular true story, but rather inspired by one. (or many) The movie "Scream" was directly inspired by the Gainsville Ripper. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comicsandcosplay/columns/darkdreams/15381-Danny-Rolling-the-Gainesville-Ripper
workingcinderellaman
And many claiming to be "based on a true story" take a lot of artistic licence for entertainment sake. http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/pain-and-gain.php

goose
The film was directed by Michael Apted, and was based on Mark Handley's play Idioglossia. The play was inspired by Handley's time living in the Cascade Mountains in the 1970s, and the story of Poto and Cabengo, a pair of twins who created their own language. Starring Martin Sheen.Starkweather and Caril Fugate. That happened in Nebraska and the people in Lincoln were still upset that Fugate was paroled when I lived there in the early nineties. workingcinderellaman
Just watched this one: Very interesting, but not as accurate as I would have liked. I read the real account and they took a lot of liberties with the truth. Still, it's a very interesting story.
New_World_Man
Lots but apparently not the Amityville Horror like a lot of people thought for a long time. Lol. One that comes to mind for me is this one from the 90's about these guys on a soccer team or something who were in a plane crash and have to find out how to survive. I don't remember the name of it though.
