Rick N. Backer
Hysteria and Appetite are the only true classics, the rest are average albums by great bands You think The Joshua Tree is an "average" album? Interesting. I'm not their biggest fan, but I'd say U2 has 2 essential albums. Joshua and Achtung Baby.
TheAccountant
When Appetite came out I got it right away. Dumb luck but I was like "This looks interesting. Let me try it." So I got it and got into it before it was popular and I was a trend setter, not follower. Listed to it every night for months. HYF was the first Rush album (along with Power Windows" that I bought - got them at the same time. Liked it a lot but loved it, at the time? No. Love for it came latter. As the years have gone by it has pulled way away from Appetite. So my vote would be HYF (by a wide margin)ST from White Snake (yes its not a listed choice - to bad, it get my vote anyway)Appetite The others. Somebody mentioned Helloween - Keeper of the 7 Keys Part 1 and Thunder from Andy Taylor. Keeper would go in ahead of Appetite and Thunder would go in behind Appetite but ahead of the rest. Segue Myles
As much as I love Hold Your Fire, this one goes to either The Joshua Tree or document.

Segue Myles
Appetite was not only a great album, but what it represented and did was groundbreaking ( all over again ) A lot of music fans had been waiting for something like Appetite for a long time - it was more than just an album http://rollingstoneaus.com/assets/Uploads/720x405-GettyImages-569037745.jpg I appreciate REM and have respect for them, but I never connected with them .. Joshua Tree was an album I bought, but I have had zero interest in since Momentary Lapse is something I have no interest in, even nostalgically HYF was, and remains shit . . Says the guy who finds merit in ABK48 and Hyuna.

HemiBeers
In that year, Rush lost it's balls with HYF and GnR found them.
