Aerosmith - Rocks

Van Halen - Fair Warning

Heart - Little Queen

Exactly what makes a band American? The Van Halen brothers aren't from here.

They are United States citizens. They grew up in the United States. They live in the United States. They started the band in the United States. The rest of the band is American. I think that sums it up.

Not really. You seem a little defensive about it. The post wasn't attacking you. Simple question about generalities not just Van halen. Is foreigner an American band?

Didn't they pick that name because they'd be "foreigners" in the U.S. and the U.K., or something like that?

Boston - Debut

Van Halen - Debut

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Pay ATTENTION! HARD rock! ;)

The Boston and VH debuts would be waaaaaaaaay up on my list of American rock albums...HARD or classic or pop or whatever.

Both would easily crack my top 10 and probably top 5. Boston's debut would be a shoe-in.

While I would consider Van Halen an American band, I think Ancient Ways brings up an interesting point ...

You cannot separate what Eddie was exposed early on - culturally, artistically, socially - from what eventually led to the music he created ...

Just sort of interesting to think about

Funny how easy this would be with British bands... American rock pales in comparison.

Van Halen

Pearl Jam - Ten

Alice in Chains - Dirt

Huh. I just had to get out of the 70's and 80's and it wasn't that hard..

Could be a topic for another thread, but I tend to disagree

If we open it to everything under the "rock" umbrella, I think the Yanks would fare just fine

I didn't even think of the grunge bands. Core, Nevermind, Superunknown, Facelift.

You're right. It is easy.

I was thinking classic rock, initially...60s and 70s.
