Back then rock was pop.

And apparently there wasn't much separation of the usage of rock and pop until around the late 60s.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia labels them an American rock band.

https://en.m.wikiped.../The_Beach_Boys

For what it's worth Wikipedia labels Elvis Presley as Occupation :: Singer, actor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Presley

In no way was Elvis an actor

He was a singer ATTEMPTING to act. He along with...........

Justin Timberlake

Mick Jagger

Jennifer Lopez

Ice Cube

Madonna

Reba McIntyre

Vanilla Ice

That's all true but he still did enough to be considered an actor. A shitty actor. But an actor nonetheless.

I did telemarketing for a few desperate months back in college. So yeah, I was a telemarketer. Elvis was an actor.

According to Wikipedia, "Sunshine pop (first known as soft pop) is a subgenre of pop music originating in Southern California in the mid-1960s, although it only acquired the name later. The genre began as an outgrowth of the 1960s California Sound and folk rock movements. Sunshine pop largely consisted of lesser-known artists who imitated more popular groups like the Beach Boys, the Mamas & the Papas, and the 5th Dimension. Its music is characterized by prominent vocal harmonies and lush orchestrations. In some ways the genre is similar to baroque pop music through being elaborate and melancholic, though it also crossed into folk pop and Brill Building styles."

The poll is missing surf-rock (or surf-pop, if it suits you) as a choice. The surf genre certainly defined their early years. Later experiments moved them into the psychedelic category, whether intended or not. Listeners could certainly drop acid to those soundscapes.

AllMusic refers to them as "One of the most influential acts of the rock era, purveyors of both infectious surf music and sophisticated baroque/psychedelic pop."
