  1. Let it begin... Scott Rockenfield's account of the QR timeline... http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode...wsitemID=176573 And, Michael Wilton's account... http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode...wsitemID=176587 Can't wait to hear Tate dispute all these claims.
  2. Iron Maiden Flying Colors Metallica Machine Head Widowmaker
  3. I am a big fan of early Def Leppard. I have the first 4 (best) albums and Retroactive. I got to see them twice on the Hysteria tour (once w/ Tesla opening, once w/ Queensryche opening). I bought Adrenalize when it first came out and sold it back to the campus CD store a week later. Bleh! Vivian Campbell has said that he has been very happy playing with Thin Lizzy and his original Dio bandmates because he gets to play a lot more guitar than he does nowadays in Def Leppard. I'm glad that they can continue to make money touring. But, (IMO) Def Leppard died with Steve Clark. I just haven't been a fan of anything they've done since 1987.
  4. You can expect a fantastic show! I'll be seeing Waters' presentation of 'The Wall' for the second time when I go see him in Philly in about a month. Very curious to see how it translates to a stadium. Kinda funny that he's playing this show in stadiums. It's a little ironic considering they played a bit of a part in the album's creation in the first place.
  5. I picked up the new album off iTunes yesterday (comes w/ 2 bonus tracks). Pretty good stuff. A side note about Myles... Anyone ever see the movie 'Rock Star' (2001) with Mark Wahlberg? At the end of the show, Mark gives the mic to a dude on the side of the stage as he walks away. It's Myles! I couldn't believe it! I had to sift through the credits to confirm. But, it's him.
  6. QUOTE (metaldad @ May 21 2012, 09:37 AM) Great tour also . Sad part is i saw it in an arena that holds 15,000 and there were no more then 5,000 people at the show . No shock they got Ace and Peter back soon after Sounds familiar. I saw them in Roanoke VA on that tour with Trixter and Faster Pussycat opening. Definitely not a full house. It was GA on the floor and I was able to get up front and got a Gene pick. I think they had already stopped selling the tour programs at the shows by that point. As a side note about Trixter... I saw their guitarist Steve Brown 2 months ago playing in a Branchburg NJ bar with his 3-piece band. While they were sitting in a booth before they went on, they definitely didn't look excited to be there. As for Revenge... definitely one of the best non-make-up albums. HitS was a step in the right direction. Revenge was right where they should've been all along. Only bad thing about this album is that Eric Carr was already gone.
  7. QUOTE (tjtull @ May 16 2012, 11:35 AM)Considering all the nonsense the band is going through right now with Tate and his wife (cabaret show, shiprocked, etc.) , it's equivalent to whoring out the Queensryche name. Shiprocked did have one redeeming item for Queensryche... Their entire set consisted of Mindcrime from beginning to end. No filler. But, they're done! Tate should stick to his solo stuff and wine-tasting appearances and leave the band. He's said on countless occasions that he's not a fan of heavy music. Do everyone a favor!
  8. I think King's X had their best show with FHL. Their video for "It's Love" was in heavy rotation on MTV back in the day. Amazingly underrated band. Jeffrey Gaines - great singer/ songwriter who's unfortunately best known for his version of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" The Nixons were a band that should've been hugely successful in the '90's. It just never happened. They had a decent hit with "Sister". They had 3 albums and were done.
  9. In no particular order... Dream Theater KISS Metallica Megadeth Machine Head Pink Floyd Queensryche (DeGarmo era) Tesla Iron Maiden Foo Fighters
  10. The one thing about Adrian's TMS interview that bummed me out was his declaring "Fear Of The Dark" as a "must-play" song. It's a fine song. However, I'd love to see it sacrificed in order to play one of the songs that hasn't been played in years.
  11. This album is awesome! I've been listening to it a lot since it came out. This and Flying Colors have been in heavy rotation.
  12. I'm bummed about the NJ date. I've had tickets to see Roger Waters down in Philly on that same date for like 7-8 months. I'd bail on the Waters if I could since I saw him in NJ back in 2010. Unfortunately, tickets were sorta expensive. Oh well! At least I got to see DT last year when they played NJ.
  13. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Adrenaline Mob! Album sounds really good start to finish!
  14. QUOTE (treeduck @ Mar 19 2012, 01:45 PM) ^^^ THIS! I love Mike Portnoy and everything he's done (until now). But, this album is horrible. Russell's "singing" makes me cringe and the lyrics are terrible. The album's silly tough guy posturing is laughable. I'm not saying I could do better myself. However, Portnoy defiitely can. And, hopefully, he will with next week's release of Flying Colors.
  15. QUOTE (metaldad @ Mar 5 2012, 01:13 PM)QUOTE (The K Man @ Mar 5 2012, 11:48 AM) Adrenaline Mob still sucks something awful. Unfortunately for Mike , this album is getting No good reviews . Unless people buy it or the live shows do well and they get good tours , this will be the first and only AM album . Songs that Everyone has heard before are flowing like wine here . Sad I'm sorry to say that this is the first Mike Portnoy release with which I've been disappointed. I was at the first AM show last year and liked about half of what they played, especially the covers (what does that say?!?). But, just what everyone is saying about "generic" and "forulaic" is correct. The bassist from Disturbed is a perfect fit because it's the same type of music, just not as good. Russell's screaming vocals are like nails on chalkboard for me. "Feelin' Me" is possibly one of the worst songs I've ever heard. I hated it at the concert and the album doesn't change that for me. I'm hoping that his Flying Colors release is better than this. And, if the reviews are correct, it should crush it.
  16. I love the new album. It's way better than I thought it could ever be. However, I think they're a better live band with Sammy. There's a decade of material (good or bad, whatever you think of it) that will never be played live again by VH because Roth can't and won't sing the Sammy stuff. Sammy always did a respectable job of singing the DLR stuff. And, looking at the concert from Louisville, Roth looks like he should be in a cabaret show, not a headlining rock act. He'd be better off ditching the headset and carrying the mic stand around ala Steven Tyler. I find his stiff stage presence uncomfortable to watch. As for Eddie looking like he's put on a few... Who cares?!? The dude is 57 years old! You don't stay pencil-thin forever. But, kudos on ADKoT. It's a really good frickin' album!
  17. Please forgive the probably stupid question. But, was the last album, 'Blood Of The Nations', really that good? I haven't heard anything off of it. But, I've heard nothing but good things.
  18. 5150 for me. And, it has just as much to do with the memories of listening to that album every day the summer before 8th grade as it does the songs themselves. I find it to be a very solid album. Balance is a close 2nd. They came back from the crap on F.U.C.K. ("Spanked"?!?) and made some really good songs. I just wish there weren't 3 instrumentals on it. My disdain for the F.U.C.K. era carries over to the awful "live" album put out on that tour, too. Ugh!
  19. I'm still on the fence about this one. Traditionally, I buy anything Portnoy does. However, I was at the show they did at the Hiro Ballroom last summer. Some of it, I liked. Some of it, I didn't like AT ALL! I am more excited about his Flying Colors project. I was most excited about his now-defunct John Sykes project. I'm curious as to who kept the songs. Will they be used with Kotzen or did Sykes keep them to use 10 years from now when he decides to finally put something out? The ultimate MP project would be Portnoy, Petrucci, LaBrie, Myung and Rudess. But, that ain't happening. At least I like Mangini.

  21. QUOTE (fledgehog @ Dec 21 2011, 04:02 AM) QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Dec 19 2011, 07:15 PM) Off topic, but is anyone else a member of Dreamtheaterforums.org? I just joined (same username as here) but I'm waiting for the admin to confirm my account. can't stand DTF. Maybe they've changed in recent years, but my memory of them is a bunch of perpetually fellating fanboys who adamantly love every millisecond of everything Dream Theater related (in fact I believe there was even a rule saying that you weren't allowed to say anything bad about the band or its output -- where's the fun in discussion if everyone's agreeing with each other?). I was IP banned about 3-4 years ago after receiving three warnings, one for a "personal attack" (can't remember what I said but it certainly didn't justify the accusation), and two for simply MENTIONING that i downloaded whatever was the new porcupine tree album at the time (fear of a blank planet?) -- not even mentioning any sources. It's not quite as bad as mike portnoy's forums were (again, i haven't been there in a long long time, and i know that Weymolith quit so that probably changed a lot of things). I suppose it's a good source of information and news about the band, but there are much better places in terms of discussion. Dream Theater fans are some of the most annoying people on the internet. It's a decent board. I post occasionally. But, like on most boards, I read/lurk much more than I post. There certainly is a faction of DT internet fans who are intolerable but no better or worse than other internet prog snob. They're harmless for the most part. They certainly have much more free time to post and dissect every minutia of DT, Porcupine Tree, Symphony X and ever obscure prog metal band I've never heard of. BTW, I'm still loving the new album as much as the day it came out.
  22. I can't believe that Thanksgiving Day was the 20 year anniversary of Eric Carr's death. I remember hearing the news of his death on my way home from college my freshman year. I was crushed. Personally, his death impacted me more than Freddie Mercury's.
