  1. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Oct 2 2011, 12:53 PM)I see some of the Neil brigade are out in force in the YT comments section. Saddoes. This is something that really annoys me about some Peart fanboys. They seem to have this "if something isn't complicated it obviously sucks" attitude. Well I may get flamed for this but I will say if it was Neil playing in that band it probably would suck. Don't get me wrong, I think Neil is a great player but his style just wouldn't be right for that kind of band - the drums would be too busy and dominating. Bands like Best Coast call for simplicity in the drumming department and IMO it's often most important to know what not to play - fast fills, double kick, etc. The simple answer to the question is NO not even close. To me her playing sounded solid and served the song well. What's bad about that?
  2. Does anyone know where a list of UK theatre dates can be found for Time Machine? The Rush Official site says it will be shown in the UK but the Time Machine Premier site has only got a list of US showings. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!
  3. QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Sep 29 2011, 06:18 PM) QUOTE (eshine @ Sep 29 2011, 09:20 AM) QUOTE (reani14 @ Sep 25 2011, 09:28 AM) his vocals will be bad no doubt. If they are anything like i heard on youtube. its gonna be painful.. I'm happy to report how wrong you are. This is a classic case of Geddy at 58 being compared to Geddy at 28. He doesn't sing in the crisp, high pitched nasal sqeak of his younger years - and I'm perfectly fine with that. He sings from his stomach now - and his pitch and tone are far better for it (he used to go out of tune on an almost regualr basis when he was just singing through his nose) I've read complaints about his vocal performance on the S&A DVD and just can't wrap my head around it - that was one of his best ever tours vocally. On the Time Machine tour, particxularly the first leg, there is no question that his voice was tired in spots and cracked here and there - but embarressingly so? No way - he's got the strongest voice of any of his contemporaries and this particular recording finds him on a very good night. If they cleaned it up a bit then more power to em. If I flubbed a note here or there I would want it smoothed out for a DVD... Poor Ged - his voice will forever be damned, no matter what he does I don't understand the complaints about Geddy's voice either. I think that his vocals are excellent on both R30 and S&A. Count me in there too. I don't understand all the fuss being made - nothing "off key" about his vocals that I can hear.
  4. OMFG MARATHON WAS INCREDIBLE!!! That song should never be dropped from the setlist again!
  5. QUOTE (reani14 @ Sep 25 2011, 09:28 AM)his vocals will be bad no doubt. If they are anything like i heard on youtube. its gonna be painful.. Then don't watch it! But seriously are his vocals really THAT bad? His tuning sounds fine to me. Sure he might not have the range he used to have and the tone might have deteriorated a bit, but he still does a way wayyy better job than many other rock singers out there. And all while playing those bass lines!
  6. Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways Don't know if there is such thing as a perfect album but IMO this is about as close as you can get!
  7. I still think Neil had one of the better solos - I'd place it 3rd behind Gavin and Copeland, making it my favourite of the 1st week. IMO it was the most musical and creative of the solos that week. I was quite liking Anton's solo until he did that HORRIBLE crash cymbal groove which killed it for me. Shelia E. had the chops, but I found her solo to be lacking in creativity and musicality (I'd say the same about Tony Royster Jr). Roy Haynes I liked but I wouldn't really call what he played a "solo" in the conventional sense - still good though. While I agree Neil's solo might have suffered from being shortened and the it might not have been the tightest big band finale, I also think he still outshone the other players that week in terms of constructing an effective and musical solo - Sheila E. could take a leaf out of his book maybe! He's definitely played worse...
  8. 59 years old today. Happy birthday to Neil Peart!
  9. I love pink floyd too. I'll also take the opportunity to say that one of my absolute favourites is the Momentary Lapse of Reason album - possibly one of the most criminally underrated albums of all time! There's something to discuss!
  10. Tom Sawyer is "Rush's Best"? Reaally? I could name many many Rush songs I prefer over Tom Sawyer - it's the weakest song on Moving Pictures IMO. And Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) Pink Floyd's best? Noooo way! Having said that, Comfortably Numb could be a different story...
  11. The much underrated Talk is my favourite followed closely by Magnification and ABWH.
  12. The Sky Moves Sideways by a country mile for me. It's hands down my all time favourite PT record and it's flawless imo.
  13. QUOTE (tangy @ Aug 23 2011, 04:15 PM) apparently Ged thinks highly of their drummer...... What's there to mock about that? Matt Cameron is a superb player!
  14. QUOTE (reani14 @ Aug 16 2011, 07:06 PM) and you guys thought my threads were bad. ha ha
  15. I'd say get rid of Faithless and Workin' Them Angels and replace them with Open Secrets and Prime Mover. It's not that I dislike the two S@A songs, I just think there are other far more deserving songs in the back catalogue than those.
  16. Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it loads! Really has got some very funny scenes, even if the plot is pretty weird. But is it me, or does Kevin Spacey look scarily like Neil Peart nowadays?
  17. QUOTE (trenken @ Aug 1 2011, 08:32 AM) QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Jul 31 2011, 06:21 PM) QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 31 2011, 01:37 PM) How could Tai Shan get knocked out??? People are trying to sabotage it by voting for the worst. Not giving specific names but I dont mind ratting out their plan since I dont like it. I got a PM for someone asking me to vote for Tai Shan so that they can ruin the poll, which is very lame. I refused. Not the case for everyone though. I'd been voting for that song for several rounds because I genuinely really like it. It's a beautiful song and IMO considerably better than most of the other songs on the list.
  18. I'll go for 2112 this time round.
  19. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Jul 16 2011, 01:58 PM)Xanadu. Hemispheres has the most as of this post. Maybe that's cos it's the least good out of these? Just sayin.
  20. While I do like the song a lot, there are a lot of other songs I'd rather have heard on the TM Tour. I'd say the same for Faithless as well. But apart from that, I thought the setlist was killer!
