  1. I agree. It makes it sound like the band still exists without him in it. To be accurate, it should read, "drummer of the former band "Rush." I know, it hurts to say that, but unfortunately, it is true.
  2. It was 1995. My husband was quoting lyrics about peer pressure to his teenaged son, mostly Subdivisions and Kid Gloves. I liked the poetry. He was surprised that I, a Canadian, was unfamiliar with Rush. We had just purchased a CD player (!!) and he suggested I buy Exit Stage Left and Grace Under Pressure. I was immediately hooked. I loved Geddy's voice, all the instruments, and Neil's lyrics. I didn't really like TFE, and we lived too far away from any to go see them anyhow. Then the hiatus happened, and I didn't think I would ever see them play Live. We missed Vapor Trails too, but when Snakes and Arrows came out, I saw them for the first time, and that's when I became a true fan. (or fanatic) Now we own all the music and all the later DVD's. I listen to Rush all the time.
  3. I recall an interview a few years back where Geddy and Alex said they would never do a farewell tour. They just wanted to bow out quietly when the time came. Neil has said similar things in his writings. Sorry, I don't have any links for those comments.
  4. Rivendell is an amazing song. It's true that it's not really rock, but still an amazing song.
  5. I'm not at all surprised. I thought they were done after Clockwork Angels, so R40 was a bonus. They deserve their retirement. I wish I could retire, but I cannot. However, they have worked hard and given us so much great music, which I continue to enjoy listening to. I do wish Neil would write some more books, though. I really like his writing.
  6. Probably my favourite too. It's one of the first Rush songs I ever heard and still in my top 10.
  7. Yes! Perhaps there just aren't very many Hip fans on this forum, though. My faves: 1. The Tragically Hip 2. Triumph 3. Max Webster 4. The Guess Who (and Burton Cummings solo)
  8. I am deeply saddened by all the stories I'm hearing - not just from Hollywood and the modelling world. It's not just rich and powerful men. It's also everyday working men in everyday jobs. I have heard so many of my acquaintances say "me too" that I'm beginning to think I'm the only woman in the world who has never experienced this in the workplace or elsewhere. I don't think it's anything I've right, or other women have done wrong. I'm just extremely lucky.
  9. For those who don't have access to AXS TV, the episode will be made available for digital purchase the following day for $2 at this location here. I've posted this twice already. Nobody has to worry about missing the interview as long as they buy the 'effing' clip. Does anyone pay attention to details in posts? This $2 investment to me is more worthwhile than buying a beverage at an expensive coffee shop. Thanks. I will try at home later. Hope it will be available for purchase in Canada.
  10. I don't like the song, although it's not in the bottom 10 of songs I really hate, which I won't get into now. I find Superconductor to be too repetitious. It doesn't have the fine poetry of a lot of Rush songs. Also, I find the sound to be a bit tinny, not as rich as most Rush tunes.
  11. Such a loss to the music world, to Canada, and of course to his family and friends. RIP Gord. You will be missed.
  12. I'm also a member of Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap Forum where I posted this clip before. I also posted the 'Rockin' In The Free World' jam clip at the end with Randy Bachman and The Arkells below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAco3qc6pnI I wasn't even aware Alex was a part of the ceremony until recently. He wasn't mentioned on the list of performers. For the record, I've read probably every book and seen every documentary on Canadian music. I've discovered RUSH anecdotes that non-Canadians aren't familiar with, which I've submitted to the Rushisaband, Power Windows, and Cygnus X-1 tribute pages. One above example that many aren't aware of is that RUSH became Canada’s Official ‘Ambassadors of Music’ in January 1979 here. I discovered this tidbit of information from reading the 1996 book 'Oh What a Feeling: A Vital History of Canadian Music'. I champion the lesser known Canadian acts who're legendary more than the huge global successful ones. I sent a non-Canadian friend this DVD documentary box set here, which features an appearance by Geddy. They enjoyed it and learned a lot. When Donna Halper was in radio, she championed and played Canadian acts on air well before discovering RUSH. How many RUSH fans will remember Bruce Cockburn, Murray McLauchlan, and Valdy? I remember all 3. But I'm Canadian, and all three were big in my area.
  13. The day after the solar eclipse in Oregon, I took a drive through one of the Oregon State Parks in my Porsche. I saw a woman there in a Rush t-shirt and I neatly avoided her. I think she recognized me, but thankfully, she didn't follow me. She must know I like my privacy. (Well, it could have been him, but I'll never know, will I?)
  14. I always loved this song. It stands out to me as one of the best pop songs of that era.
  15. The California fires make me really sad. I've seen the devastation on TV and it is heartbreaking to see entire neighbourhoods destroyed. I don't live anywhere near there, but I have a friend who lives in that area and I am worried about her. I am trying to reach her, but we've been out of touch for a few years.
  16. You and me both. I loved Glen Campbell when I was a child. I was really moved by the documentary about him as well. Alzheimer's is a terrible illness and very sad for the person's family.
  17. I love Alex's backward walking on stage. My favorite was when he did a backward crouching walk once all while playing his guitar. I saw it on a Youtube video but have never been able to find it again. I believe it was during Red Barchetta.
  18. So do I. Lately it's been a sad place remembering how vibrant it once was. Like much else, time doesn't stand still here either. I had feared this would happen when the boys retired. I've really enjoyed this and other Rush forums, but they all seem to be fading away.
  19. Well, I saw the documentary last night and it was very good. The Hip and Rush have been my 2 favourite bands for a long time, and now they are both done. I feel really sad about that, but I feel especially sad for all of the Hip members. Theirs is not a retirement or a breakup like so many bands. Theirs is a violent breaking-apart of a 30-year friendship and a band that has had a huge impact on Canadian music and culture.
  20. We have purchased tickets for Monday's show in advance. Last night's showing was sold out. Looking forward to it, but I'm expecting to be sad.
  21. I completely agree. And its one thing to tell the fans that way. Completely different thing to tell your bandmates that way, and judging by Geddy's reaction in the press, that was how he heard that it really was a final decision. Well, I don't think Geddy read Neil's latest book then, because it was obvious to me when I read the book that Neil was finished with touring. He also implied he wouldn't be writing any more books which I think is a real shame, because he's an excellent writer. On the other hand, I can't really remember which happened first - the release of the book, or Geddy's comments. really? after 40 years, geddy should have to read neil's book to find out what's going on with his band? I'm not saying I agree - I'm just saying that Geddy's reaction makes me wonder if the communication is lacking. It was obvious to me that Neil was saying he was finished, but then, what do I know - I don't know him personally. I just go by what Neil writes in his books.

  23. Nice idea, but outrageously priced, IMO. I already have a lot of Hugh Syme's art on the CD covers and liners. I have to agree that the set looks beautiful, however. I guess autographs are worth something as well. I have Alex's autograph on one of his limited edition prints and it looks very nice on my wall. I guess I'm satisfied with that.
