  1. 1. Which do you prefer?

People like to poop on Counterparts but I must say I don't know how Counterparts is worse than Signals.

This seems like a pretty arbitrary gripe. I'm not sure why one needs to have anything to do with the other.

In any event, I love both Signals and Counterparts, and I count both among my five favorite Rush albums. But I could understand why people would find a song like Losing It to be more emotionally affecting than anything on Counterparts; or find more to relate to in a song like Subdivisions than in anything on Counterparts; or prefer the guitar/synth combination of Signals to the grungy sound of Counterparts; or prefer the guitar solos in songs like The Analog Kid, Chemistry, and The Weapon to any of the leads on Counterparts; or appreciate the drum/synth breaks on Signals; or find the Signals lyrics generally to be more interesting and less ham-handed than the Counterparts lyrics...

I could go on. I'm not saying I would necessarily agree with all of that stuff. But I wouldn't find any of it to be particularly perplexing either.

True, it's all opinion. A lot of people can't understand why I like Clockwork Angels so much. I was stating what I said as a matter of opinion. I wasn't trying to be objective although I did say it in a rather poor way. Sorry about that. :)

I hear lots of good in CA, it just doesn't blow me away at all...it did, but its charms wore off and they just don't seem to wanna come back!

That's okay. I mean, you're wrong, but it's all good. ;)

Hehehehehehe...it's an album I have a lot of respect for. It's done them wonders and helped me get stuck in!

At least you see the good in it. I personally am not a big fan of Hold Your Fire but I can see why many would consider it a masterpiece. There really is a lot of good composition on it.

We should just fall out like everyone else does haha!

YOU SUUUUUUCK

U WOT M8! U SELFISH PRICK!

HAHAHAHAHAHA dude chill!

Your back hurt my knife.

YOU'RE RAKING MY OPINIONS OVER THE COALS! I CAN NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS CRIME!

Good. I hope this rage ages you overnight and you die tomorrow crippled like a Titanic rose.

My sympathy is already with the unfortunate mirror your face is set to break.

*rages overnight*

*is a crippled, wrinkled old eggplant*

Good.

Just die on the bed linen, no one wants to hide the stain on the carpet.

I shall die where I please!

*dies in the cabinet*

I see I disguised the fireplace really well...

*lights match*

*sings Firestarter*

*is a dead, old, wrinkled, burning eggplant*

For me its a draw. Signals has the mighty Subdivisions (my 2nd favorite Rush song) plus the wonderful New World Man, Analog Kid, Losing It & Countdown. Plus other, lesser, work.

FBN has By-Tor (a top 10 Rush song for me) plus the wonderful Anthem, Beneath, Between & Behind, In The End, & FBN. Plus other, lesser, work.

One (Signals) has slightly more interesting lyrics. The other has music which is more appealing.

Love both and can't pick between them.

I like some of the songs on Fly By Night but Signals just seems to have a great concept and continuity that Fly By Night doesn't have. Signals was the first Rush album to captivate me in its entirety.

And I actually really love Digital Man and Chemistry. The Weapon made me stop what I was doing when I heard the synths for the first time. Subdivisions is great. Analog Kid made sense once I actually listened to the lyrics, and New World Man took some time to warm up to because it seemed to be jarringly cheerful placed right after The Weapon, but I like it too. The only song I still don't really "get" is Countdown, but I'm giving it a bit of time because it's not a weak song, there's just an odd sound combination between synths and guitar that I don't find to be too catchy. Experience tells me that that's the song I'll understand and learn to enjoy the most in the future as I wouldn't have burned it out from liking it too much too early, so there we go.

It's a very easy vote for Signals for me.

Signals - hands down. Sonically, thematically, a better album. Obviously more mature in subject matter and how its handled. Not as raw energy as FBN, but times had changed. As had ages.

Plus. Signals is a beautiful concept album, with its alternating themes of constraint and release and ultimate hopeful message of "Countdown" more than balancing out the pessimistic constraint of "Subdivisions"

I voted Signals. It's my second fave album and was the reason I became hardcore fan. However, Fly By Night is my third favorite so I really love it as well. At the time, FBN was the first "classic" back catalog Rush album for me to get.

You have them lined up like that and FBN takes it 5-3 but you don’t know? Why not? Because Rivendell got its ass kicked?!

I score it 4-4 with the only choice difference from yours being Subdivisions over Anthem. But I pick Signals because the beatings given are overall stronger coming from the Signals end.
