Am I the only one that's NOT totally against this idea?

Terrible idea. And the very thought of Captain Bluebeard mangling his way through those beautiful songs makes me want to catapult kittens at the wall.

Rush will not retire after this tour.

The chance of Rush touring without one of them is ZERO. Any true Rush fan knows that.

Why would anyone want to see Rush performing without one of Lee, Lifeson and especially Peart? Are you really that needy?

I like your post but do you really think they won't retire from touring after this one? I could see them recording more music but what we have come to know as them "touring" you don't think that will end?. To answer your last question I have a life and don't even "need" this tour... :codger:

I think they will do a series of short residency gigs, say at Radio City Music Hall, or somewhere in London or in Europe.

I think they just don't want the physical and mental grind of long multi city tours that they believe the fans expect.

I know that the band wouldn't go out as Rush with any other member missing. I also know that one of the band suggested they could do residency gigs.

Fair enough. I honestly don't really care if they record another thing as I lived without everything post 85' for so many years and survived somehow but do you think they will record again even if you don't care if they ever do?...

I'd actually prefer they didn't record again, at least not an LP. Maybe an EP, Some solo work would be cool or the soundtrack rumors are intriguing, but I am thrilled with their body of work and have already come to grips with their "burial", so to speak.

That part I get but it has to be in front of me to do it. If I could go somewhere and just grab it like I do with the others here I realize how easy it is. I learn stuff every day around here believe it or not. I have come a long way baby in a year and a half... :dweez:

I came to grips with it years and years ago until I found and got hooked on this forum  . Nothing will ever replace the brilliance of the 70's and barely creeping into the 80's for me anyway... :codger:

Ok, where in my original post did I say that if this project in my mind came to frutition, it would still be under the Rush name? I even specified that it wouldn't be the "real" Rush.

They wouldn't do it. Simple.

Do you know anything about this band?

"The three members of the band have three very different opinions on that question. "

I do realize that but I was just curious what Tony thought and why...

I am also interested to hear what the "rush extension" (??) crowd thinks as well.

I find Ged's quote I posted above fascinating for that reason. We debate yes or no and SO DOES THE BAND. I find that way cool.

Many think of Neil as the power broker, I would lean towards Geddy as the leader. But they have told us all 3 need to agree on things.

They have told us their plans. They plan on slowing down dramatically. There is hope for a couple of one off shows (charity or festival) and/or "resident runs." Tours of this magnitude are over.

:(. :). :(

As much as I hate to admit it, I'd actually welcome that idea. I've only seen Rush once (Clockwork Angels tour) and at this rate, it doesn't look likely they will bring R40 to the U.K. :( If i can see 2/3 of the band with a guest drummer, I'd be fine with that.

Geddy solo would be fantastic though, I would totally part with some cash to see him live in a solo tour.

I'm surprised that people think Alex will retire after this tour; I thought Neil was the only one who was pretty much guaranteed to get off the Rush train, so to speak? Is Alex suffering from some sort of difficulty playing? Or is he just fed up with touring?

He's been having quite a bit of difficulty hitting the first note of solos since the tour began. Much more than he ever has in the past, so people have been concerned that he's in pain from his psoriatic arthritis.

For the guitar players, what is it about the first note in a solo, as compared to the first note in a song or verse, that would be causing extra discomfort or other issue at that point in time?

There is only an outside chance of that....Alex musing about it, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Once Neil settles into actual retirement...given the kinda guy he is...nobody should expect him to come outta retirement. For anything. Even a one-night stand.

If diehards don't start taking the hints, they're going to be more dissapointed than they ought to be.

It's kinda weird, seeing so many people's feathers getting ruffled over Rush's retirement.

Are you guys really that rabid about Rush perpetuating themselves until they can't stand up anymore?

I don't get it.

Let them rest.

Sheesh. Sometimes it really does suck to be a rockstar and have fan expectations heaped on you.

It's like he's having trouble finding the notes on the fingerboard. His fingers aren't going where he wants.

Guitarist hands always end up that way, it seems.

To put those fingers where he wants, he has to fight through the pain and the fingers' increasing lack of dexterity. All in front of 20 thousand screamin' Rush nerds.

At least Neil can hide behind his risers if he's grimacing while fightin' through it.

Alex has to be out front and center stage with a smile on his face.

Truly, I will be shocked if Alex and Neil don't call it a day for good after August.

How selfish.

Rush at any price.

If you REALLY loved them, you would want what they want, not what you want. And what it appears that they want is to enjoy the rest of their lives enjoying their lives without having to worry about touring and recording albums.

Depends on a lot of factors, primarily where the note is located on the fret board and how the note is sounded (is it just a straight fingered note, or a bend up, or a ghost bend down, etc?)

Sorry to hear about Alex's problems, that must be pretty awful for him, especially as he's right out in front as people have mentioned.

Looks like Geddy is the healthiest of the lot, which makes sense that he's the one most likely to carry on. I can see him doing some solo work for sure.

I think its because rock stars don't retire. Many of the greats, Who, Stones, McCartney, Kiss, Van Halen,so many others, have and will go on much older than the age of 62. But they ain't Rush.

The show must go on, except for Rush.

Most bands fade into obscurity, or hit the casino circuits in their golden years.

The greats you mentioned are exceptions to the rule, not the norm. There really aren't that many, not that can play at the arena level. A dozen? Maybe two dozen at the outside, that are still alive, still capable, still willing.

Yeah, that's why I was guilty of expecting Rush to keep going. I always pegged them for at least another album and tour, especially as people who have 8/9 years on them are still going, such as Yes and the guys you mentioned. And Yes are definitely not the healthiest these days. Then again, they aren't touring arenas anymore, not since Jon Anderson left

Also, unlike Rush, Yes have no compunction in firing/releasing members of the band and carrying on with singers from their own tribute bands. Just look at the criticism the have attracted carrying on without Jon and Rick (hell, even Oliver). I understand now that would simply not happen with Rush. Chris Squire will probably keep touring Yes until he's the only original member left.
