Wow! Okay. I stand corrected.

That song was seriously ahead of its time, then, in an AOR kind of way.

They also sounded amazing on those early albums so just go and buy them already!

Haha...I confess, I only had a Styx compilation that my brother made, of the well-known stuff...and I had Caught in the Act, their Live album, from '83-'84, but that was it.

I have a compilation CD and Cornerstone on Vinyl (great packaging on that one!).

Me neither....and please stop calling me Shirley.

HAHAHA!

We are related too.

"Airplane!" is the greatest comedy ever made.

Then "Blazing Saddles."

Then perhaps "History Of The World."

I love "Kentucky Fried Movie.

The Zuckers are Amazing Genius Fukkers!!!

Are you serious? How is this a debate? Styx hands-down!

Well, both musically and especially lyrically Billy Joel has the better song here. So there is definitely a debate to be had.

Opinions...if we were talking about Vienna I would agree, but we aren't.

Styx all the way for this one!

Vienna is a fine song but it's no Angry Young Man.

Earl? Do you like films about gladiators?

I think I really did pick the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. Anyone who thinks Styx is better than Billy Joel MUST be sniffing glue.

Not into glue. I find Joel boring, pedantic, and everything I loathe about rock and roll.

On the other hand, I have many Styx albums. No songs by Mr. Joel. Gee, why is that? :o

Vienna is my favourite Billy Joel song and I have listened to all his albums.

I enjoy styx.....but Deyoung annoys the crap outta me. Big drawback. i know hes gone but i have not heard any albums without him.

Mick

I find DeYoung and Joel equally annoying, but thankfully Styx has more to offer aside from DeYoung, whereas Joel is just, well, Billy Joel and nothing else.

Listening to any Joel album is as irritating an experience as an album with nothing to offer other than five variants of Lady and another five variants of Babe, and the plush production and jaunty piano playing gets under my skin and there is rarely anything to distract from that.

I do really enjoy Billy Joel's work, but only in small doses. And once DeYoung took over, I find Styx to be terrible (Cornerstone is average, and Kilroy Was Here makes me sick, and everything after, even without him, sucks terribly). Only Paradise Theater, with all the DeYoung influence, works for me.

Every Billy Joel album feels like Cornerstone to my ears. Good, with greatness, but rarely am I compelled to play him.
