Aftershock - Van Hagar

Recommended Posts

The lowest point for Eddie was doing the soundtrack to a porn movie...there´s a video of him playing the songs he wrote for it inside the 5150 studio which is quite depressing. Have a look:

I'm glad Eddie is looking much healthier these days. He looks like a heroin addict in that Catherine video. I saw their last tour and Eddie was great !!! DLR, not so much.

When it comes to under appreciated Van Hagar, Amsterdam is a great example of killer Van Halen music, not so much great lyrics though (and Sammy is a self-professed crappy lyric writer)hence, it gets brushed aside. Eddie stated one time Amsterdam should have been a big hit for them, but the lyrics really cheapened the song. I totally agree.

To weigh in on this whole Van Halen v. Sam Halen, I go Roth all the way. I have no earthly idea how anyone who truly appreciates hard rock doesn't recognize early Van Halen a total phenomenon, they were absolutely on fire. Perfect. That being said, I really like the Sam Halen shit, and 5150 rivals the Roth stuff. And to be honest, Sam Halen was consistently the better live band. I saw them on 5150 (1st concert ever), OU812 and F.U.C.K., and they were a well-oiled machine. They totally set the bar for me at other shows.

I love both bands, but they're most assuredly two bands. For me, Fair Warning is the high water mark of the Roth era. Carnal is probably the best of the Hagar, but it's not as clear cut.

Definitely agreed about Fair Warning. VH at their best, and I was lucky enough see them on that tour. It was like a week after the moving pictures show.

Ah the good ol days.
