pretty much done with the basement project, just a little cleanup needed.

Here is what the floor used to look like (the ugly red and brown tile) compared to the new bamboo vinyl we put down.

Rec room. Packers Division/Conference/Superbowl champion hats line this area. Posters from left to right... Favre, Avengers (partial), Rush (S&A), Pirates of the Caribbean(partial). Custom cushion around the support pole beautifully made by my wife.

Opposite view. Homer beer poster next to a small collection of sports bobbleheads. Around the dartboard are my coaching plaques and to the right are more Packers SB hats, my Packers stock and framed Favre and Donald Driver rookie cards. (Shelf is temporary and full of tools and other supplies)

Here is my planter I made for some veggies....

Started out scoping the layout:

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu304/homersimpson239/Mobile%20Uploads/20140524_072258.jpg

Dug it all out, filled with Traffic Bond, leveled the cinder blocks and put in 4x4 anchors in the corners:

Built the planter box:

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu304/homersimpson239/Mobile%20Uploads/20140525_170630.jpg

Filled it (Roma/red and yellow grape tomatoes, habanero/serrano/poblano peppers, cucumbers, carrots, kale, romaine lettuce) and put the wildlife protection around it:

Started the bench and flower planters:

Finished assembly (flower planters are filled with strawberry plants):

Sealed it and built cages for the strawberries seeing something was nibbling on them:

I suck as a handyman. When I try to fix something I make it worse!

Hey,

No one knows it all. I know my limitations. If I am not sure I just ask a friend for advise. If it is serious electrical stuff I will not even attempt to try it my self.

Funnily, a carpenter friend's business has been booming since the 90s BECAUSE of people trying to do things themselves, f***ing it up, then having to call him for help.

I'm guessing everyone here pretty much knows what they're doing with the stuff they're attempting but the numbers that attempt something beyond their ability is apparently staggering. I've heard some funny stories about regular joes screwing up their homes or some other disastrous project.

Yeah, you have to know your limits. There was a chance this was going to happen with us and the bathroom seeing we ripped it down to the studs, never know what you might find. Luckily, we weren't moving walls or plumbing or anything. Everything was just rebuilt in place and updated, and the serious electrical work I left to a professional friend.

My neighbor learned that it's worth a couple hundred bucks to have a tree service take down a tree after he took out his screened in porch...

And this isn't limited to home projects. You should see what I deal with at least every other year when my brother tries to "fix" his computer.

Most definitely. Our house used to have a separate garage, which is now attached with a laundry room spanning the gap. A crawl space under the laundry room can lead to the basement getting a little humid when we get a lot of rain. We live on top of a hill, so we've never had water issues, just the occasoinal humidity the crawl space promotes

That's what I figured. I unfortunately have crawled through way to many damp and even dripping wet and puddled crawlspaces. Yuck...

Which reminds me: there are quite a few nurses in our family so I hear a lot of those stories too. I remember one that my bro's wife told me last time we met--some patient sawed off part of his f***ing finger while doing some home improvement repairs!

Here is what has been keeping me busy, other than the office and family...

Here are a couple views of the bar (notice the cool Lambeau Field panoramic shot by the foosball table :) )

Oh, and there's a shot of the Atari 2600 hooked up in there too... for LED ;)

^^^ I used to have most of this stuff 30 years ago, but congrats on achieving this set up, MAAAAAAN! I had an old foosball table from an actual pinball place. Solid wood, the playing surface could be flipped, smooth on one side and 'pebbled' glass on the other side Dynamo I think? But I used Tournament players on it, rubber instead of hard plastic.......played better. Sold that for quick cash to another foosball maven.....Ah, memes....... :) :ebert:

This one actually lifts up and there's an air hockey table underneath. You can see the cord on the floor under the table, it's for powering the air!

It's like I tell people.

I don't Hunt

I don't Fish

I don't work on my own car.

I don't mow my own grass.

Childish activities.

Now if you want me to move some money around to get the best return on a long or short term investment. I'm your man.
