I love action movies but this movie was actually painful to watch. In many action movies I can put up with the corny clichés, weak storyline and bad acting, but at some level the movie has to work. This movie didn't work at any level.

What's the movie about?

A takeover of the white house and control of the nuclear launch codes. But then there's this guy they didn't plan on who happens to be in the white house interviewing to be on the Secret Service detail. And, like Bruce Willis and Gerard Butler; Channing Tatum throws a monkey wrench in their diabolical plan.

Doesn't sound like my kind of movie anyway, but I'm guessing Channing Tatum is "hot and sexy" looking right? (Have to use some actor to bring in female to the theatre).

It didn't work because it was directed by Roland Emmerich, who also brought you such hits as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla, and 2012. He likes to blow up famous buildings but he has no idea how to develop story lines or characters.

Emmerich is not alone, unfortunately. Way too many directors like him, making brainless drivel.....junk food for the eyes and ears...... :sarcastic:

I like Goldblum and Smith... they made the movie watchable for me. Not good, watchable :)

Idk, he did develop one character in day after tomorrow real well. The cold. The cold can chase you down the hall and freeze your door shut. If you see the cold coming (and you can in the movie) you had best get inside quickly or the cold will kill you.

Yeah, that was some pretty wicked cold. I think that one would survive longer going naked out a spacecraft airlock into space.

Roland Emmerich. Ugh. The man is responsible for some of the worst movies of all-time. I'm still not over watching The Day After Tomorrow. He's a hack with regards to many things, not just filmmaking.

I like Goldblum and Smith... they made the movie watchable for me. Not good, watchable :)

 

I hear Goldblum and Pullman are coming back for a sequel but not Smith since he'd be too expensive for 20th Century Fox with his salary.

 

Apparently, this movie was a "disappointment" over the weekend considering the budget and how popular Tatum is in mainstream movies and got beat by The Heat. Emmerich is basically a poor man's Michael Bay.

 

Haven't seen any Summer movies this year since I just wait until Redbox for new releases since it's cheaper but as far as last Summer, Snow White was the worst. Charlize is the only reason to watch it.

I hear the Lone Ranger is such a turd it will eclipse them all with its stink.

They seem to be trying too hard to make armie hammer a star. The real bomb looks to be ripd. Looks like a really shitty men in black

My son saw this a couple of days ago with friends. He basically said that if you go into it thinking it will be the worst movie ever than it will be mindlessly entertaining since the bar was set so low to begin with.

 

The Day After Tomorrow I like as a nothing's on late-night kind of movie. I don't look for it but will stop and stare coming across it lol.

The Lone Ranger wasn't the best but it didn't suck a tenth as bad as White House Down.
