The "cops" are one of my favorite bands of all time. Are they new wave? Hard to say. They're kind of punk, kind of reggae, kind of straight pop. I saw them on the Synchronicity tour and again at Fenway Park in 2008(?). They had lost nothing in 25 years. Love them.

It would be difficult not to classify their early stuff as anything other than new wave.

I'd be willing to defer to the experts at Rolling Stone, though. ;)

Anything from The Fixx would do, but I'm partial to this one from 1984:

P.S: This band is CRIMINALLY under-rated. They were / are amazing and have a very unique sound.

Another Fixx favorite. Really damn weird video, though:

Don't think it's really New Wave, but The Jam from that era:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I mean, they nailed it with The Cars, no? ;-)

No Doubt did a decent remake of this one.

I disagree. I hated their remade version.

Me too. That song belongs solely to Talk Talk.

Certain songs should be left alone; recently overheard a country cover of Roxy Music's More Than This. After confirming that what I thought I was hearing (grocery store) was in fact some whiny chick twanging away MY VERY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME, I abandoned the cart and went to another store. I knew there was a reason I don't shop at Publix!

Can't believe no one's mentioned ABC. Martin Frye still performs, sometimes with ABC, and he looks and sounds just like he did 30 years ago. He's taken very good care of himself.

The great thing about this thread is it has caused me to stop listening to the "heavy sh*t" for a few days, and has caused me to revisit some great stuff like Missing Persons, The Police and Talking Heads I haven't listened to much of in a while..

More great Talking Heads:

I love The Fixx. They are my favourite of the "80s" bands. I still listen to Reach The Beach to this day. I *love* the guitar work, the bass lines and Cy's vocals.

Here's two of my favourites from them:

That's awesome! Believe it or not I used to play the main keyboard theme for Reach the Beach on my daughter's kiddie xylophone when she was like 2 years old hahaha. Since it didn't have any minor keys it sounded just like it.

Another really good Fixx song is Outside (also on RTB). The live album they put out in the 90's has a KICK ASS version of it. Jamie's guitar work is unreal, his style is a huge part of what makes the band as good as they are. Think of him kind of like The Edge, only good for his whole career instead of 3 albums :laughing guy:

I love The Police, but no way is Outlandos a new wave album. It's probably more punk than anything else if I had to put a label on it.

That was my problem too. Its hard to think of Outlandos, or Regatta or Zenyatta (their "early stuff") as being in the same vein as Candy-O or Remain in Light.

Agreed. That is such a good song. The guitar work is so unusual.
