Am I the only one who doesn't get the hate for Tim Dalton? Sure, he's mostly a stage actor, but I thought he did a pretty good job in The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill.

Of course, no one will ever out-Bond Sean Connery, but I'd put Dalton ahead of the later Roger Moore Bonds.

I agree with you. I think Dalton came across too stiff as Bond for a lot of people but he's a great actor.

Loved him in Flash Gordon!

I don't think Rodger Moore was bad until Octopussy.

Octopussy is terrible...

Some that stick out as being good:

Goldfinger

Dr. No

Casino Royale

Live and Let Die

The Spy Who Loved Me

For Your Eyes Only

Shit:

A View to a Kill (Walken seemed unintentionally like a lampoon)

Quantum of Silence...big letdown after the terrific Casino Royale. I fell asleep in the theater; never did that before in a Bond flick.

Other:

I'm not sure it was really Dalton's fault. Those Bond films just weren't that good regardless of him. But even then, I think his 007 movies weren't as bad as A View to a Kill or Quantum of Silence.

I actually have a soft spot for the Dalton Bond movies. Are they the best of the series? No, I wouldn't go that far but they definitely are better than people give them credit for. His portrayal of the character was quite different from Moore's, and way more intense which is what it needed to be at the time. Particularly Licence To Kill which the storyline needed Bond to be in that mindset. The more humor laden-Moore portrayal just wouldn't have worked in that movie.

Some of my favourites (out of order):

For Your Eyes Only (I really feel this was the best of the Moore bonds, along with The Spy Who Loved Me which is also brilliant)

Goldfinger

Goldeneye

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (If Connery had been in this film, without question it would have been the best in the series, bar none)

Dr. No

Casino Royale

Live And Let Die

From Russia With Love (re-watched this one recently, and it really grabbed me all over again as one of the best films)

Only a few have been fairly steaming hunk of poo on a stick. Quantum Of Solace which even Daniel Craig doesn't like and has admitted the script was affected by the Writer's Strike that went down in that timeframe. Octopussy which feels way too long if I ever watch it, Die Another Day was alright in parts, but overall a bit of a letdown. Moonraker is a fairly disliked film in the series, and indeed the movie is a little far-fetched, but I have always thought the beginning with Bond and Jaws in and out of the airplane is one of the better opening sequences in the series.

Been a HUGE Bond fan ever since I was a kid, and I simply cannot wait until Skyfall in November!!! 1022.gif

I've seen them all, and I'm a big fan. I know I'm going to get flack for this but my top two are:

Casino Royale

Quantum of Solace

The Sean Connery era was best . They were based on Ian Flemings novels.

After that...lost its original appeal IMO.

Got either too cheesy or special effects took over with silly storylines

Did like the theme song on Live and Let Die though

I watched License to Kill last night, verdict: boring. It's not just Dalton, it's the script, it's just not a Bond script and not really a Bond film. It's like Bond meets Miami Vice the TV movie...

Best performance: Gladys Knight

Yeah, it was below average. That's the one that had a very young Benicio Del Toro, right?

Yeah, he was ok, but he didn't have much to do, just a line or two and getting his ass kicked in a bar. The guy out of the Omega Man (zombie leader) and the Dead Zone (rich old bastard) was in it too as a sneaky bad guy, Anthony Zerbe. This is the actor who was in Kung Fu twice as two different characters. In one he plays one of a gang of outlaws on the run, who gets mixed up with Kwai Chang Caine. His character is a sneaky bad guy, he usually plays a sneaky bad guy. In the other one though he plays a goodie little two shoes quaker type character who gets attacked by these dudes who slap him around and they shave his ridiculous quaker beard off, thereby messing up his religious beliefs. He looked waaaay better without it though!

I haven't seen them all, but my favorite is For Your Eyes Only, mostly because it was filmed in Greece and Italy. I like Moore better than Connery. That film also has the best theme song.

1. The Spy Who Loved Me. Barbara Bach, futuristic underwater lair, Lotus submarine car, stolen ballistic missile submarines, amazingly hot but deadly helicopter pilot,.. this movie's got it all.

2. From Russia with Love. "Who is Bond, compared with Kronsteen!?"

3. The Man with the Golden Gun. Christopher Lee, master assasin.

4. Goldeneye. Izabella Scorupco as the most beautiful woman ever. Ever.

5. Casino Royale

6-10. The last two D. Craig movies, Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, Thunderball, Diamonds are Forever
