I love this. It's so beautiful.

Here be friends...

here be heroes...

here be sunshine...

here be grey...

here be life...

here love lies bleeding...

memories so hazy...

and dreams that drove me crazy

here be down...

here be paradise...

here be starbright...

here be pain...

here be smiles in eyes like rainbows...

my father and my mother...

my sisters and my brother -

pictured within

where there're shadows ill met by moonlight...

there are dragons I have slain...

and here be bright eyes with hair so golden...

sunrise and sunset and running free...

and laughing at the rain

here be home...

here be travellin'...

here be thunder...

here be blue...

and Sometimes heaven and thoughts of wonder...

the Miracle of children...

a poet and a pilgrim

kith and kin - pictured within

lose and win - pictured within

This one really fukking bums me out. Badly. DP is one of my top 10 all-timers. Great, great musician and he will be sorely missed. RIP Jon. I consider it an honor to have seen you make your magic, even if it was only on one occasion.

This is Jon, accompanied by Jeremy Irons, who narrates Thomas Hardy's "Afterwards". Could cause a tear or two.

Afterwards

When the Present has latched its postern behind my tremulous stay,

And the May month flaps its glad green leaves like wings,

Delicate-filmed as new-spun silk, will the neighbours say,

'He was a man who used to notice such things'?

If it be in the dusk when, like an eyelid's soundless blink,

The dewfall-hawk comes crossing the shades to alight

Upon the wind-warped upland thorn, a gazer may think,

'To him this must have been a familiar sight.'

If I pass during some nocturnal blackness, mothy and warm,

When the hedgehog travels furtively over the lawn,

One may say, 'He strove that such innocent creatures should come to no harm,

But he could do little for them; and now he is gone.'

If, when hearing that I have been stilled at last, they stand at the door,

Watching the full-starred heavens that winter sees

Will this thought rise on those who will meet my face no more,

'He was one who had an eye for such mysteries'?

And will any say when my bell of quittance is heard in the gloom

And a crossing breeze cuts a pause in its outrollings,

Till they rise again, as they were a new bell's boom,

'He hears it not now, but used to notice such things'?

One day Jon will return in an all-zombie metal act...

Oh, man! sad.gif

So often musicians die that are posted about on this forum, but rarely one I cared about as much as Jon Lord. Definitely one of the organ/keyboard greats. If I still had my radio show, I'd happily do a 2-hour tribute to him. Thankfully, I had the privilege of seeing Deep Purple with him twice.

This is what I have been listening to for the last two hours or so - accompanied by "April", "Pictures of Home" and "Perfect Strangers".

One of the very few real gentlemen IN ROCK.

R.I.P., Jon.

Thanks for brightening up my youth.
