  1. I'm also playing Purple and Whitesnake loud enough so the neighbourhood can hear... Shine on you crazy Highway Star.
  2. OP, not sure where you heard Kenora to Toronto is 5 hours... Try a couple hours alone just to Thunder Bay, then 12 hours to Sudbury, then another 4 hours to Toronto... Maybe Chicago is closer to you? [EDIT]: Unless you're going Ottawa U to Toronto, then 5 hours is about right...[/EDIT].
  3. So now it seems the reunion (and tour) is off, and it's now an "Ozzy and Buddies" thing... not sure if Tony backed out because he knew it wouldn't be Sabbath without Bill, or if he just isn't up to touring (despite the news that he "continues to make excellent progress"). http://www.billboard.com/events/black-sabb...006224752.story QUOTE (Billboard) Three months after announcing a 2012 tour and album, Black Sabbath has reshuffled its reunion plans in light of guitarist Tony Iommi's battle with lymphoma. The hard rock legends have confirmed that they plan to play only one show on their planned European tour -- Download Festival, which takes place June 10 in Donnington, U.K. In between the lone performance, Ozzy Osbourne will head out on a 15-date tour as part of "Ozzy & Friends," which will feature special guests like Slash, Zakk Wylde and Sabbath's own Geezer Butler on select dates. 4. Bob Dylan, because he smoked them their first doobie, which expanded their minds, which gave us Rubber Soul, Sgt Pepper, the White Album and Abbey Road.
  5. QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 10 2012, 03:25 PM) QUOTE (ReRushed @ Feb 10 2012, 03:05 PM) Bon Jovi Why is Bon Jovi so popular? Why? Women Love him and he writes candy ass , radio friendly Pop songs Training bra music. Once kids get past the Bubble gum stuff (Britney/Beiber/Spice Girls/etc), they get into what appeals to 11-14 year olds. Enter Bon Jovi/Aerosmith/Nickleback/etc
  6. Agreed with all the love for the White Stripes -- take them off the list and replace with Nickleback, and there's my vote.
  7. QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 5 2012, 11:50 AM) They were the Biggest band in the world at that point, people want you Everywhere . Kiss, Sell Outs ? Sure, not Alice I would think Led Zeppelin and The Who were bigger bands in the early 70s... The AC band was probably the biggest U.S. band in 71~74...? (The Doors were done and Kiss hadn't reached that #1 status yet)... Just because people want you to appear everywhere does not mean you have to go against everything you stood for previously, and sell out to make the industry happy. Everyone has a price, and Alice got his price (no pun... Vincent Price, hahaha). Kiss, for sure = a marketing campaign that just so happens to play music. Agreed 100%. Like I said above, I have a ton of respect for the first couple of albums, but once his band deserted him because Alice wanted to go all Hollywood, I gave up on him too. All that said, **HUGE** kudos to him for getting and staying sober all these years.
  8. Just reading through the posts -- thanks for all the info folks! What a &^#@&%# soap opera....
  9. The ultimate sell-out. He went from being the voice and symbol of the disenfranchised youth of the early 70s, to singing with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy on the Muppet Show, when he was not appearing on the Hollywood Squares. I listen to his older stuff on a regular basis, but nothing that does not include his original band.
  10. Love both bands' early stuff... for me, it comes down to Tres Hombres and Deguello vs. Animal Magnetism and Blackout... Hard choice, but I have to go with ZZ Top.
  11. Best Vocalist: Freddie Mercury Rob Halford Robert Plant Best Frontman: Mick Jagger Freddie Mercury Ozzy Osbourne
  12. "...Can I fill in?" Strangers In The Night, for sure... one of the classic live albums of my teens. Schenker in his prime... the "golden voice" of Mogg... I actually prefer the original version compared to the re-issue. It has more "flow" and the new re-issue seems so awkward to hear, even with the setlist put back in its original order... (Still have no idea where Mother Mary and This Kid's came from though - does anyone have any info on this? Were they studio "live" creations made just for the album?)

  14. But yah, to stick with the topic, I love the mix-up Geddy does in the Ottawa 2007 show before Mission.
  15. Robert Plant was the best at between song banter. He is more clever and funny than most people realize. There is a website dedicated just to the banter he came out with. http://www.rambleonzep.com/ Just one example: 1975-02-16 St-Louis "I think after that one should say, amen. Now it's no good shoutin' for a drum stick - we've got hours to do yet. Right, so now where were we? So. In between, uh, Kansas City, do you know where Kansas City? Yeah? Our friend, Mr Bonham, got arrested there about four years ago. Remember that, John, the jail? Fantastic..." ----------------- "I said he was one of the best. He's the best! John Bonham! Oh dear, and I've known him since he was a child. Childhood friends, childhood friends. It's amazing we've walked so far together. Anyway, I'm gonna hop on one foot for a bit." ----------------- "Good eveening! John Bonham... the 'Heavy Metal Kid'... takes to the drums." Edit: OK, another example: 1977-06-21 Los Angeles (Bonham's cymbal needs repairing and Plant is killing some time) "Some trouble with the musical equipment up here. Right now, the man who fought, the man who fought against the elements... The man who fought food poisoning. The man who drinks Heineken. The man who doesn't get out of bed. The man who hasn't got a cymbal... "The man who's having a chat with his man who knows the man who tunes Jimmy's guitar who comes from Scotland, and doesn't know the man they call Tim, but does know Audrey from Dallas. Thank you. Shh, hang on... "The man who now learns how to construct his own drum kit. The man who's not very professional. Shut up, wait a bit, shhh. The man who said he could go back to a building site anytime, and we all agreed. The man who's holding up the show. The rhinestone cowgirl. Come on, Bonzo, get on with it. That's what the quaalude stagger is... "The man who played the Los Angeles Aztecs and beat them 10-1 by himself. The man who, one wonders, is he worth waiting for, and doesn't really realize there's a curfew here. A childhood friend. A man who many people once said, 'Never heard of him', John Bonham. Over the Top!"
  16. How could I have have forgot....? The White Stripes!
  17. QUOTE (Enemy Within 77 @ Jan 23 2012, 04:45 PM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Jan 23 2012, 03:26 PM) QUOTE (Scobie @ Jan 23 2012, 03:03 PM) Vandenberg, Kick Axe, Teaze One listen to those bands and you Know why they did not last I don't know... Vices is a killer album... Welcome to the Club was alright... And Teaze, they also had a pretty rocking debut, and I still listen to their live album maybe once a month - straight-forward rock, no glam or other nonsense.
  18. QUOTE (Rick N. Backer @ Jan 23 2012, 09:34 PM) QUOTE (Scobie @ Jan 23 2012, 04:03 PM)Vandenberg I saw them open for Ozzy touring for their s/t debut. I always liked them. It's too bad Adrian left to join Whitesnake. Same here...front row. I thought they put on a hell of a show.
  19. QUOTE (whoisrush @ Nov 29 2009, 07:15 AM) Agree that Slide It In is an excellent album but for me the definitive Whitesnake is the line up that had Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody, Neil Murray and Coverdale. They put out some excellent blues rock albums in the late 70's/ early 80's and everything since has not been anywhere near as good. Came here to post exactly this. After 'Slide It In', they seemed to go for the money and become training bra music to me, and I gave up on them. Mickey Moody, Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray formed a group, Company of Snakes, which had some good stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Company_of_Snakes I was shocked to hear how much swearing Coverdale did on stage when I listened to the boots from the Coverdale/Page Japanese tour bootlegs. "C'mon Tokyo, let's &*^%$& hear yah!! Let's *&%$*&$ rock and roll!!!"...
  20. It seems they went from an awesome guitar-driven "live" bar band to an over-produced synth-saturated "studio" band, which is a shame. When I first got into the band, I thought it was mostly about Bloom/Lanier/Dharma. But as I got more into them, I realized an important part of them was the Bouchard bothers. They were the backbone, and after they left, BOC seemed to wander around the musical landscape too much for my liking. I would love to see the Bouchard brothers re-unite and go on a tour with BOC, but not knowing their reason(s) for leaving, I can only hope it will be...
  21. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jan 20 2012, 09:28 PM) QUOTE I have the original Japanese pressing of "Imaginos" and it still sounds like shit. I have the new USA reissue as well. I was hoping they would remaster it. Sadly it still sounds like crap. I love the concept album storyline but the music just does nothing for me. Do you like "Club Ninja" and "Revolution By Night?" I do. Yes, actually I think Revolution is a solid effort (at least the first 6 songs). After that it tends to slow down... Shadow of California is awesome! As others have mentioned, Shooting Shark is a classic. Club Ninja seems to suffer from what I call "Side 1 Only" (where the second side seems to be nothing but filler)... I love Dancing in The Ruins and of course, Perfect Water is complete perfection... so much so I wish they would open their shows with it all the time!
  22. Astronomy = one of the classic rock songs of all time!! - - - - - - - - Does anyone know the story about why Imaginos sounds so terrible? I mean, it sounds like it was recorded under water, and I can't figure out why the producer/band would allow it to be released as it was... Would love to see it remastered (maybe a SHM-CD version from Japan)... Thanks for any info.
  23. QUOTE (metaldad @ Mar 3 2009, 04:37 PM) just got the new live album [out today] STILL DANGEROUS . from 1977 at the tower theater in philly . what a great f-n band that went away to soon. if you like lizzy get htis one Wolfgang's Vault has the complete show here: http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/thin-lizzy/c...er-20-1977.html Awesome... Bad Reputation kicks ass! Too bad it's 96kbps though... I guess that's normal for streaming? (Edit): Of course, after posting that^, I find the whole show in flac http://qualitybootz.blogspot.com/2008/03/t...te-edition.html (/Edit)
  24. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Jan 4 2012, 05:39 AM) QUOTE (Babycat @ Jan 4 2012, 02:05 AM) Just a sudden thought: are Page & Plant still performing together now, or did they go the way of Simon & Garfunkel and split acrimoniously? Don't know if there was any acrimony. I do know they are not performing together right now. Plant was touring with The Band of Joy last year. I have also heard/read numerous places that Page wants to do a full Zep reunion tour with JPJ and Jason Bonham as they did for the one off concert in '07 but Plant's not interested. Have not heard why or if I did I've forgotten. Anyone know? I think Plant just has no intention of "being an old fogey singing songs from the past to the back of an arena", as he put it...? Page/Jones/BonhamJr held try-outs for singers, but nothing really substantial came of it. Re: Jimmy... I believe sometime last year Jimmy made a statement of some kind that he was "giving up" on making any new music for now, in order to focus on his website http://www.jimmypage.com/ launched last year. It seems his website is a mess of typos and mistaken dates/facts, almost like the person running the site has no idea what he or she is doing. Ironic how Jimmy always was known as a perfectionist, yet allows these errors to occur with such alarming frequency... Here is a thread discussing his website from the beginning. http://www.royal-orleans.com/phpBB/viewtop...41111211343b47c
