Oracle
Haven't listened to much 80s music in the last few months, but I do occasionally go back. Cum On Feel The Noize - Quiet Riot (yeah, it's a cover, but I like it slightly better than the original) Africa - Toto Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran Like a Virgin - Madonna (I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight - Cutting Crew Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson (this was hard for me, because his entire 80s output is great) Red Red Wine - UB40 Oh Sherry - Steve Perry And, to my eternal shame, I've danced to almost all of these songs at various parties. Akron162
i think some of the best and the worst of the history of music is in the 80's, but i only listen specifically to the heavy metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Motorhead and more recently Iron Maiden. If i have to choose my favorite song from the 80's it would be Master of Puppets i guess. 1 of the 7
Way, way too many to list, because New Wave/synth rock is my absolute favorite, but Saved By Zero by the Fixx is my favorite non-Rush song.
GangsterOnBoats
Of the pop /rock category I would have to say "don't give up" by Peter Gabriel, and the rest of the eighties crap I could live without. However, the fusion artists like holdsworth and Berlin really hit their strides in the eighties

I'll do a list shortly. I'm in an Eagles mode this weekend. I absolutely love Joe Walsh. I know many TRFers hate the Eagles. I love them. But since we are talking best 80's songs I have to mention one of my favorite bands from this period. THE OUTFIELD Every song off of "Play Deep" is great. The production of that album is also stellar. Signed, "Say It Isn't So"

It's like you avoided most of the artists listed most well known songs. I blame that on one simple fact: as a kid, I started out with albums, not singles my parents had record collections, but only full-length albums (no singles) - and as soon as they let me turn on the player myself, I was hooked even listening to the radio, if a song came on that caught my ear I was always thinking "...I wonder what the other songs on that album sound like, and if they're as good?" it never even occurred to me that you could buy 'one' song until I saw my first 45 at a yard sale when I think back to the 80's, I don't think 'Saved By Zero (single)' or 'Who Can It Be Now? (single)', I think 'Reach The Beach (album)' and 'Business As Usual (album)' so many fantastic (and more often than not, superior) songs on those hit single-containing albums
