Worst 2012 movie I saw and a new direct to DVD low for DeNiro. 50 can't act at all

Silver Linings Playbook - Much better, Bobby D! Nice he has a rare decent movie on his post millennium resume.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Side Effects

The thing about 50 is he's totally unconvincing and uses the same tone of voice, same one emotion for every scene, but the character he's playing in this isn't convincing either and his decisions didn't make sense from one scene to the next. The whole thing didn't make sense in fact. Even his girlfriend and his cougar pal Dana Delany didn't make sense. His buddy the white cop, what the hell was he doing suddenly shooting two guys about halfway through? Another character that didn't make sense and seemed to change out of the blue. And after that De Niro gives 50 shit for the killings and makes him snort coke, which was a another plot dead end. And what was De Niro doing in this anyway, playing a cliche caricature who was totally one dimensional? I dunno what the hell Forest Whitaker's character was doing either. There were too many random scenes that went nowhere, like the film maker just wanted to film a scene like this and a scene like that and when Vinnie Jones manages to out-act everyone in the room you know you've got big problems. I could go on for ages pointing out the stupidity of the film. I suppose I got some entertainment value out of it, I just can't think what it is right now...

I'm as cynical, jaded and world-weary as anyone on this forum, but this movie made my year. The original is a classic that makes classics weep when they try to measure up. This prequel did the near impossible and somehow managed to capture the magic again. I loved it! I cherish it and I am so glad I bought the 3D version so I can watch it anytime I want to. I was laughing and cheering inside and it made me remember why I like movies so much. That little buried child inside of me woke up and had a lot of fun watching it. Run, don't walk, and see it. Rent it. Buy it. Just watch it.

Nobody went to see The Conjuring? I've read a couple reviews that rank it as the best horror movie of the last 20 years. It has an incredible 8.1 rating on IMDB currently. Wow. That's 2 tenths higher than the godfather of slasher films......Halloween. I've got to see this movie.

Hmmm..I hated it. My inner child is apparently dead. ;)

I just put it in my Netflix queue, so should get it in a day or so. I'll have to see if my inner child is alive in kicking or not. :)

Just out of curiosity, Duckie: you always go for 3 flicks - at what time does the marathon start? And end?

Actually, duck tells me that he usually goes for 6 flicks: 3 Hollywood films and 3 of the raunchiest porn movies he can get his filthy webbed claws on. Since he does have some semblance of decency, he doesn't post the skin flick pics

There's no set time, I may watch a film at 12 noon, then another at 11 pm, and one at 5 am, or three more completely different times. Depends when I'm able. The porn films can be fitted in night and day!

Incidentally those three films were three of the most mediocre flicks I've seen for a while. Not absolute shite but extremely dull with lame cliche endings and substandard scripts and performances, even by greats like Pacino and De Niro. :hail:

The last movie I saw in a theatre wasTed (July 2013). I still watch movies, but at home.

The last 2 films I saw at home were Les Miserables & Silver Linings Playbook.

These days, De Niro seems like someone that looks like an older De Niro trying to act like old school De Niro. And I can say the same thing for Pacino and Jack Nicholson.

Yeah they've all lost a step or three. And they all seem to be doing more films, especially De Niro, which exposes the flaws even more.

I want to see it, but it's hard to get me into a theater these days. I will see it when the video comes out.

Seriously, I knew it wasn't going to be for everyone. I was just surprised that they managed to get me back to Oz. I stand by my love of it.
