Koby2112
New to the forum. Love reading all the Rush info. Did any golf fans out there catch the Bridgestone Invitational this past weekend? I only caught the last couple hours, but I swear the commercial breaks had a song playing that sounded distinctly like it could be new Rush. The Geddy-like bassline was unmistakeable. The guitar and drums fit right in too. But definitely not a song I've heard before. Now, I'm NOT saying this is new stuff off the upcoming album, but is it possible?! It was just a little 10 second instrumental snippet, but we all know the Rush sound when we hear it. Probably just some sound-alike band, but it was a great tune and the bass was dead-on with the Geddy sound. What do you guys think? Does anyone still have it on their DVR? If it's not Rush, I'd love to know who it is to check out more of their stuff!
USB Connector
I didn't see it. Presuming it was them, I doubt it was anything from Clockwork Angels, it would be the worst way to "leak" one of their new songs (which they haven't even recorded yet according to Geddy). This is really getting off topic cause most of this chat isn't even about Rush, but I like most of the stuff being said about golf and bowling so I'll jump into this golf/bowling discussion anyway. I was forced to play golf a long time ago once, let's just say that I've never stepped near a golf course unless it's Mini-Golf. As someone from a somewhat bowling family, and former bowler, IMO it's a sport that never ceases to piss you off, but discussing why that's the case might be boring to talk about so I won't say it. There's also this episode of Modern Marvels on the history and evolution of bowing balls, which discusses things that make bowling sound boring, so yeah, I'd vouch for anyone who thinks bowling is boring cause I've experienced it, and it ain't fun. Back to the topic about the Rush thing, even if that 10 second snippet in that commercial was Rush, and if it WAS from Clockwork Angels, if anything it might be Caravan if it IS new Rush, cause that was used in a Hockey commercial once. But with that aside, I highly doubt is Rush, but as always I might be wrong

Koby2112
Thanks for the welcomes. Sorry to start a thread that so easily got off topic whether golf is fun to play and/or watch on tv. The answer is....it's fun to play AND watch! I don't care what any of you say! I am also doubtful it is Rush, but whoever it was clearly had strong influence, and the bassist copied Geddy's sound. It just sounded so much like it could be I was caught off gaurd and ended up rewinding the clip a few times to listen again. I am sure it was not Caravan because I've listened to that tune many, many times! I was hoping someone else would have noticed it too, but I guess not. Moving on... ChiliFan
The PGA Tour YouTube channel has recap videos from the Bridgestone Invitational with various soundtracks. The song at the start of this video is the only one with prominent bass, is this the song you were talking about?
druid13
If that generic sounding crap is new Rush...I won't be buying that. it sounded like random Wal Mart backround noise music created for golf so it needs to be just as predictable but not as brash as the music ESPN would use for football highlights. Koby2112
Not it. I agree that is really generic stuff. But I could see how that could be the same band/musician. Keep in mind I only heard about 5-10 seconds. What I heard was not generic like that...had a great little Geddy-esque bassline. Could easily be mistaken. As I said....moving on. Nothing to see here. This must be a sign of withdrawls from lack of new Rush!

Hmmm, My Favorite Headache did sound too Rush like.....after all, it was Geddy's solo effort. And the title track WAS bass dominant, so was Home On The Strange to a lesser extent....if it isn't even that then we may never know for sure.... The only other non-Rush artist I can think of that's kinda close in terms of bass....probably...Primus. Les Claypool's heavily influenced by Rush, so.....
