pedro2112
QUOTE (Analog_Bro @ Jun 27 2011, 09:44 PM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj-LMNiAWnM ^^^This is the way they played Anthem in 1991. I personally like the way Geddy sings it here Um, that was 20 years ago. I Love anthem. However, I would hate if they wasted a valuable song spot in the setlist with a song that vocally would sound like my ass in two parts.

Thank you... Anthem is not a great song its a f***ing mega song. I swear some people around here a very suspect when it comes to being Rush fans. So what geddy can't sing that high now the point is he could do it and do it better than most.
The K Man
Anthem is a great rocker. The odds of them ever playing it again are probably slim to none, but I'd love to see them do another R30 Overture-type melody again some day, and include parts of Anthem again. Heck, like someone else already said, if you watch that clip from '91, the way Geddy sang it was similar to how he sings a lot of stuff these days, so maybe playing it as part of a medley where Geddy only has to sing that chorus once (instead of three times) would work. Probably wishful thinking, but I'd be game.
Silas Lang
QUOTE (RUSHian62 @ Jun 29 2011, 12:56 PM)Anthem was one of the first Rush songs I remember hearing in 1975! http://youtu.be/WN4wIpDABUU anyone that says this isn't awesome is a kid and or not a true Rush fan! Yea either that or they're favorite albums are HYF, Presto or RTB. Anthem is simply a great powerful gut-level rocker. My favorite from FBN and one of my faves of the 70s. Geddy's vocals on the early live versions are so awesome and raw (love the long drawn out way he belts out "wroooong!"), Alex turns in a fast flashy yet memorable solo full of emotion (perfect example of why I prefer him over EVH) and Neil totally kicks ass (coming closest to the style of one of his first influences Keith Moon). I think they could still do it justice live on the next tour if they really wanted to. Edited June 30, 2011 by Silas Lang

Everyone likes what they like! I don't think Anthem is a bad song, but I'm not a fan of it either. For me, it's middle of the road....it sounded good in the R30 Overture, that's for sure. It really only works with Geddy's earlier stratospheric range. QUOTE (Silas Lang @ Jun 30 2011, 01:04 AM)love the long drawn out way he belts out "wroooong!" "wroooought!" Fixed.
