Guess the setlist for the next tour

Yeah, but they played Afterimage OR Kid Gloves. Did they ever played all GUP songs on the same gig.

Anyway, the songs are performed as indivisual songs, not a conceptual suite or a full album.

QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Oct 8 2010, 01:17 AM)
One thing I really LOVE (oh, and I do mean LOVE) about Rush is that they focus on what they are doing RIGHT NOW, as opposed to what they did, say, 20 or 30 or 40 years ago. They are all about moving forward. That being said, I am glad to hear some old favorites. Personally, if I were to pick a set list, it would have very LITTLE from before PeW. AND, it would NOT include staples like The Spirit of Radio and Tom Sawyer. I would prefer stuff that is deeper and less commercial...like Jacob's Ladder or Chemistry, etc. I would ADORE hearing a tour where they aren't playing ANYTHING that has been a radio single, but that's just me. Not saying that those songs are bad, but I just think it would be fun for them to be completely against the run of the mill, so to speak. cool.gif

However, I have said it before and I will say it again. Doesn't matter what they play, I will be there, with the best seats I can afford, as many times as I can. I am true-blue and completely devoted to them. yes.gif

You share the same views as me, especially with regards to them playing "Chemistry". I would absolutely LOVE to hear that song. The ending is just so dreamy and causes me to get goosebumps every time.

I would love to purely hear songs that were less commercial, however, I REALLY don't think that will ever happen. Think of it this way... if you go to any other concert (perhaps a band you may not be entirely familiar with aside from a few of their classic staples), they would STILL play classic commercial staples, regardless of how die-hard their fans are, because the bottom line is that casual fans are also attending. And so it's the same situation in the Rush camp.

As for what I think the setlist will be for this tour, I would expect a good chunk of MP, staples like "Spirit of Radio" "YYZ" and "Freewill", 1-2 songs from S&A, 5-6 songs from Clockwork Angels (it is, after all, the featured album), maybe 2112, and then the remaining time is allotted towards various gems that they dig up from the remaining albums. I know for a fact that they will do the latter, because it ALWAYS happens. On S&A tour we had "Mission", "Digital Man" and "Natural Science".... for the Time Machine Tour, we had "Time Stands Still", "Presto" and "Marathon" (among others)

Soo, I'm excited to see which ones will crop up this time.

I'd like to bring my fake setlist to the third page. It's too awesome.

Set One:

Limelight

Freewill

Territories

Malignant Narcissism

Tom Sawyer

Vital Signs

The Trees

Caravan

Secret Touch

Armor and Sword

La Villa Strangiato

Set Two:

Clockwork Angels Epic

Leave That Thing Alone

Jacob's Ladder

Red Barchetta

The Main Monkey Business

Drum Solo

Hemispheres Prelude / ByTor and The Snow Dog (shortened) / Working Man

The Spirit of Radio

Encore:

2112 Overture / Temples

YYZ

I'm pretty in love with this setlist. I think the band and fans alike would like a tour with an emphasis on Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, Instrumentals, S & A, and the new material. It would also be pretty awesome to have 2112 start an encore.

It looks like there's a large amount of Hemispheres there too.

If this "were" to be the setlist, I'd spend every cent I have and get to as many shows as I humanly could.

For me personally, the only thing I would change is swap Leave That Thing Alone with Where's My Thing. If they brought back Ghost of a Chance I'm sure they'll bring a song like Where's My Thing back in the setlist. Plus if they did, we're guaranteed a live version of it would beat the crap outta the wimpy production heard on Roll the Bones. biggrin.gif

Everything else on the list on the other hand is perfect! I'd kill to see Territories, Jacob's Ladder and Hemispheres live!

I've been watching them do this for many years. I have a feeling that they are going to do something like they did for S&A. I bet they drop the following from the MP album: RB,WH, VS, and TCE. I bet they replace them with songs from the new album. They will take 2 or 3 songs from the first set and replace them with other songs. It will be interesting to see if I am right or wrong, but I think that the setlist will be similar to what it is now, with 6-7 changes. Not saying I hope that is what they do, just thinking they will do that based upon past practice.

The Clockwork Angels Tour, I think, will have a setlist of its own. They always include several staples though. I can't see them dropping Red Barchetta. Wouldn't want them to either. I'd rather see Limelight get dropped before that.

i think leave that thing alone is their best sounding intrumental live. they should kill a few the staples like freewill and maybe yyz and make room for xanadu, jacobs ladder and mal nar. throw in something for nothing in the encore, and others like earthshine, cold fire, the enemy within, the weapon, and hemispheres prelude.

They'll probably drop a few things. Marathon I think will be one to stay.

I'd like to see Time Stand Still say, but I think it will go.

I almost want to guarantee Natural Science will be played. It seems like it's an every other tour type song.

Probably one of Neil's favorites, and Ged and Alex say "We played that last tour." Neil demands it and they just say "We'll play it next tour" and he holds them to it.

Look, two of the songs have already been released. Hence, that only leaves 4 songs from the new album that we haven't heard. Additionally, it is a concept album so you would want to keep the concept together as much as possible! That's my thinking behind it! The reason for it being in the first set is obviously that you want the first set stronger than the second!

^ I dig that playlist too. It would be awesome if they found a way to play hemispheres without geddy's voice getting in the way. If they tuned it down i'd wanna hear the whole thing. I'd like to have a chance to see some of those older songs live too.

This thread is hilarious.

Here's what will really happen:

Some of the first set S&A material will be swapped with stuff from the new album.

A couple of the other songs, like Time Stand Still or Presto, will be swapped for The Trees or another obscurity, like Ghost of a Chance.

The 2nd set will remain intact from this tour.

They don't spend as much as they did on set decoration and new videos just to trash them all a few months later for a radical departure.

I'm talking about a new tour. Not an extension (or new leg) of the Time Machine tour.
