Slaine mac Roth
While we're on the subject of Vampires, can anyone remember a pretty low budget British vampire film that came out about 8 or 9 years ago? I can't remember the title and never got to see it - only trailers and features - but it looked quite amusing. The onnly things I can remember about it is that there was a blonde in a white nurses uniform, a brunette in a burgundy uniform who ended up as a vampire and a policeman who got covered in shit. I think the whole thing took place in a mental hospital. If any of you know what this film is, let me because I really want to see it

Mara
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 29 2010, 08:55 PM) Vampirism from a Mormon perspective. Hey, no thanks. This series needs to die...please. My fear is that there's now a vampirelet. Who is, as I understand it, growing at a soap-opera-like rate (from birth to school-age in 6 months). I shudder to think at the possibilities THAT presents. Rush Cocky
QUOTE (Mara @ Jun 26 2010, 10:43 AM) The next installment of that vomit-fest known as the Twilight saga is due out in theatres this week. If I hear any more "Team Jacob" vs. "Team Edward" shit I think I may tear my own ears off. It's everywhere. Thank god I do not have teen girls. They'd probably murder me in my sleep for the Twilight moratorium I'd have imposed on the household. Please god, make it stop. Please. Just think of it as the vuvuzela of movies. It's annoying, but it's also in the background and can be tuned out with a little mental discipline.

I feel Mara's pain, because on opening weekend of the new films and for a couple weeks afterwards, it's impossible to tune-out the hysteria, because it's not just background... it's loud and it's everywhere! P.S., What's vuvuzela? I better go Google...
circumstantial tree
I remember a TV show in the late 1970's called "Cliff Hangers" that was soap opera in format. There were 3 stories that continued from week to week. One of these was about Count Dracula. Michael Nouri played the part. He was supposed to be sexy and looking for a woman to spend his life with. The show was cancelled after one season.

I think things like this take off because a certain percentage of underground fans dig the stuff, causing a stir, and if nothing else is happening, other people become interested and before you know it... pack mentality takes over and EVERYONE loves it because everyone else does. Astromancer
QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 26 2010, 05:34 PM) QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Jun 26 2010, 05:27 PM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 26 2010, 07:35 PM) All these modern vampire shows suck, and none of them are scary, the vampire genre has been raped by Hollywood, I think it began with Buffy, but that was an entertaining show. I'll disagree slightly with that - the blame needs laying, squarely, at the feet of Anne Rice Never read her stuff but Interview with a Vampire the film was cringeworthy, a piece of puke with the wooden top acting of Cruise and Pitt floating in the mess... Whoa, there, Lestat is a more terrifying creature than most anything else that has been called a Vampire. Anne Rice's Vampires are complex characters, but that doesn't make them any less unnerving or inherently evil. The Interview with the vampire was not a bad movie. Lestat, hell, even Louie would tear the Twighlight pussies limb from limb. Her creatures are Damned and terrible things that burn to ash in sunlight; you need to check your facts. danielmclark
Pop culture vampires come in waves. The first I remember was Anne Rice in the early 90's. Then that went away and a few years later we got Buffy followed(ish) by Angel, then Buffy (and Angel) went away, and a few years later we got Twilight. Spot the trend... it's going from good to bad. Anne Rice wrote some damn fine vampire novels (though I tuned out after the fifth or sixth one), and Buffy was good (when it was good, it was really good). Angel was... okay. Twilight is shit. The next wave, due to hit around 2017, will feature vampires that don't drink blood and can only be out in daylight - if they stay out after sundown their all-over tans fade to pasty white and they die. That's about as much a perversion of the traditional vampire myth as I can think of. And it's coming. You just watch. librarian
One of my Staff tells me today that the twilight vampires are thought of as "vegetarians" because they don't drink the blood of people, only animals. errr. How is that vegetarian?
