I want to do some built-in bookshelves at some point.

ohmy.gif me too! i've been rolling the idea around in my head.

i'd have to secure it to the wall, or timothy will pull it over.

he's a little monkey.

my parents put one in their house, and its totally rad.

of course, its not always. it has the potential to collect junk, and junk sucks.

it's also going to be a dust magnet, and i loathe dusting.

but maybe some fancy doors would prevent junk and dust from accumulating?

i wonder what it would look like with wooden doors on the bottom to hide my ugly old VHS tapes

and glass doors on the top to display my treasures but keep them dust free. unsure.gif

practical, but not really the look i was hoping to achieve. hmm...

thanks guys!! we love it too, can't wait to put the new appliances in to really make it look great smile.gif

roli: the counters cost about 2400 i think. we don't have a very large kitchen but there is a bar type area above the sink. the guys who did it did such a wonderful job, we're going to have them install more in the one corner of the kitchen where we're going to make a tiny island. smile.gif

I have two new projects I added onto my already overflowing project plate: I picked up a rocking chair and cabinet off craigslist and both need a few coats of new paint and TLC. Can't wait to get started. When I do, I'll post some before and after pics.

I'm dying to get my hands on an old patio set...

I wish I got the DYI network. I always see commercials for it on other networks I watch and I would love to have that channel. I've seen advertisements for shows on log homes and my fiance and I are going to build one hopefully next winter...any new ideas would be more interesting to us.

As for my own DYI stuff, I guess I do more recycling and reusing certain things. When I get flowers at work and if they come in a vase, I will reuse the vase to hold things. I have one clear one that holds all my nail polish and another that holds hoisery. I have a bowl-like vase housing some potpouri right now. All these things have found a use instead of being stocked in my closet and being used for just flowers.

Another thing I did was I have this cheese-spread holder in the shape of a shoe laugh.gif My friend bought it for me because I LOVE me some girly shoes, but I don't really host parties yet since I don't have my own place. For now, I am using it to hold those extra buttons that come with clothing you buy in stores. It looks kinda neat and is handy in case I do lose a button.

You can catch a lot of what they show on the network on the website. diynetwork.com

The site can be almost as helpful as the shows.

I essentially rebuilt my house after hurricane's Charlie, Frances, and Jeanne, even put a second floor on the house although I definitely had help with that...I've got hundreds of pics....unfortuneately they are all burned to disc and I'd have to go through to find them as they are "in no particular order".

Granite tops with an undermounted sink is SOOO much easier to keep clean. You just swipe all of the crumbs and stuff right into the sink.

Tip for anyone considering granite but isn't sure about the cost: Now's a good time to check it out, with the housing market depressed. Go to a stone specialist rather than Home Depot or some such. They might be willing to work with you.

Ask about the "boneyard"; this is the stockpile of "leftovers" from other installations. All of the stoneworks places have one and are willing to sell from it at a discount, as it's trash otherwise. (Works best for bathrooms or galley-type kitchens. You need a larger slab for, say, an island).

You'll very likely need to replace your sink and faucet, and it's often cheaper to have the granite people include this with the package. Do some price comparisons.

Great tip. I might look into this. Even though we rent, I want our kitchen to look as good as possible. Right now... that's not happening. laugh.gif

I love granite. I think the job TSS and Failte did is incredible, and would love to accomplish something similar. Since our sink counter is so small anyway, I might be able to find a leftover piece at a place like this. Even Home Depot and Lowes have "extras" sometimes. I was content with the idea of just tiling it, but would much rather a flat piece, even if it means cutting out a sink port. scared.gif

Rebate cash should be here Friday, so we'll be starting some minor jobs in our kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and guestroom/kidsroom/photography studio. laugh.gif

I was looking to do, engineered just for the simplicity but I have found some nice looking laminants that are very thick (12mm) and have a very long warranty(25-30 yrs). They are much cheaper than traditional and engineered floors. So in short........I havent decided yet. tongue.gif

What do you suggest? I know you are/were in the business. Give me your thoughts.

Are you still selling flooring? Do you ship? Send me a catalog.

Minor changes to this table. I like it so much better. (A wonderful craigslist find for $10.) An extra coat of black paint and new silver knob.
