The Owl
Here is a little thread to pimp some of the lesser known Prog Bands out there, Reccomend a band and/or an album here. 1 rule however.....keep it obscure, No Dream Theater, Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Porcupine tree reccomendations here......as they are respectivly well known in this community. Reccomnend some bands. And post a small description of the band and/or a website Here are a few of my reccomendations Band Name: Beardfish http://www.myspace.com/beardfishband Albums: Sleeping in Traffic parts 1 and 2 http://www.proggies.ch/magazine/modules/Reviews/images/Beardfish2.jpg http://www.progressia.net/files/images/chroniques/beardfish_traffic2.jpg A sweedish prog band formed in 2004. Very great music. I definatly reccomend this to anyone. Style of thier own.....definatly lighter lyrics (comparable to Fank Zappa lyrically). I reccomend this band!!! The Owl
Band Name: Sieges Even http://www.siegeseven.com/ Albums: http://www.speed-n-power.com/band/Sieges_Even/05.jpg http://taverne.heavylaw.com/news/5346_1.jpg The Art of Navigating by the Stars/ Playgrounds (Live Album) Sieges Even was a German Prog/metal band dating back to the late 80's. They are more progressive leaning than metal, but are exceptionaly heavier than say Yes or King Crimson. Unfortunatly this band has broken up, but not without a string of good albums in their wake...Check them out.
The Owl
Band Name: Spock's Beard http://www.spocksbeard.com/ Albums : http://www.metalitalia.com/cds/images/120/15.jpg http://www.mellotronweb.com.ar/img/fotos/julio2002/SpocksBeard--Snow.jpg V and Snow A prog-band a little more well known, formed in the early 90's. A sting of great prog albums and concept albums. An excellent keyboard player. And talented writing from this band. I absolutly love this band, and I would reccomend them to anyone. The Owl
Band Name: Demians http://www.myspace.com/demiansmusic Album: http://www.pro-rock.net/userfiles/image/Demians---Building-An-Empir.jpg Building an Emipre This is a brand new band, and Building an Empire is their first album released earlier this year. They are a bit more expermental than other neo-prog bands, goobs you should love them , but once again very talented....I cannot wait for future releases of this band. The Owl
Band Name: Mostly Autumn http://www.mostly-autumn.com/ Albums: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51nyPkQpH7L._SL500_SS130_.jpg http://nsa02.casimages.com/img/2008/06/05/mini_0806051128053561378.jpg Storms over still water / Glass Shadows This is a prog band that has a respective cult following over in the U.K, but is veritually an unknown across the pond. A great prog-band that incoperates celtic influences. Very much influenced by Pink Floyd, and the guitarist style is very simular to that of David Gilmour. Some people will be turned off by the female vocalist, Heather Finlay, who splits the vocals with Brian Josh.....but if you can get past that you will definatly enjoy this band. I'll do more reccomendations later.
