priest_of_syrinx
Tiles is a pretty good band that really emulates Rush. In fact, their last album, Fly Paper, was produced by Terry Brown and has an Alex Lifeson guitar solo. http://jphca.powweb.com/imagens-e/pics/tiles_flypaper.jpg I should add that the artwork is by Hugh Syme. the masked drummer
Anything by Detroit's "Tiles". I forgot they played a show last night here! Damn. Well, if they woulda put me on the guest list I woulda remembered. http://bands.goanddomichigan.com/bands/Tiles.jpg 2nd recommendation: "Mindrought" (also from Detroit) for those who like hard rock and metal that's slightly progressive but not overdone. We utilize a "lead bassist" which gives us a sound all our own. Mindrought

fledgehog
I second Utopia, though after their first 3 or 4 albums they became more pop-ish. still good though. also, RENAISSANCE! they are amazing, symphonic progressive rock, their 70s material in particular is classic. Annie Haslam has a beautiful voice.

A sting of great prog albums and concept albums. An excellent keyboard player. And talented writing from this band. I absolutly love this band, and I would reccomend them to anyone. After further listening to spock's music, I have concluded that they are awesome What album should I buy first? Snow.....get the limited edition if you can find it. It has some rehersal stuff and a cover of Yes's "South Side of the Sky" as well
The Owl
This is probably the best record label out there http://www.insideout.de/catalog/index.php Inside OUt is a record lable that specilzes in prog, and actually care for the artists they represent.. If you've ever bought an album from the artists that are under the lable you have probably noticed a card from inside out that reccomends other bands... Pay attention to that card....so many great bands.
