Snap out of his "I don't give a shit" funk by making him do something. Seems to have worked in renewing his sense of vigor. 2. Prove his loyalty. He's not only been in a funk (and been sloppy with the Gale thing), but he's also been stealing. We can debate over which was more important, but I think it was an exercise to whip him into shape.
