Deadwing
QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ May 1 2011, 10:25 AM) The following vid makes the rounds a lot in threads like these. For all I know it could have already been posted in this one. It's Joe Satriani playing someone else's cheap guitar through a cheap amp. Read the description first, then give it a spin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9v5e1TTwts I'm still not sure how much I buy this whole "the tone is in your fingers" deal, and this video is actually doing more to debunk that in my view. Yes that's obviously Satch and he clearly still sounds like him (unmistakeable), but I'm sorry that guitar and amp sound like 100% pure garbage to me. He's not doing anything to make the tonal quality and balance sound any better, he's just proving that you can still play well on a cheapie, not sound better. I agree that a big part of a person's signature SOUND is in their personality and playing, and their fingers, but their tone? Nope. Tone makes up only one part of what a person sounds like overall. People mistake playing better for sounding better. Not the same at all.

No, you're right, and we're not saying that Satch is making that cheap guitar and amp sound like thousands of dollars worth of top-notch gear. His fingers and touch aren't making it sound good, but he's making it sound like HIM. And your identity is an important part of your tone.

I ordered the matching cab for it....but right now i'm using a 2-10" cab....

Its a B-52 AT-100. I took out the Digitech GSP2101 and i put a rack drawer in, and im getting a new Digitech GSP1101 for the rack (thinking about it) but right now im just running the B-52 and my newly updated pedal board consisting of in order from left to right (Ernie Ball VPJR, Cry Baby Classic, Boss TU-2, Boss DS-1, Boss MT-2, Line 6 MM4(modulation modler has chorus, flanger, rotary speaker, and the such) Line 6 DL4.) If i dont get the GSP1101 i might get the AM4 (amp modler) to get some more tones at my toes. I have this same amp head with matching cab. The head is decent but the cab is pretty craptacular. I'm upgrading to a Hughes & Kettner Alex Lifeson Triamp and will definitely post pictures as soon as it arrives

When MusiciansFriend sent me that guitar the neck was bowed inward, action was super high and the tuners were horrible. Took a little bit to get set up properly but now it plays pretty sweet. It's kinda hit and miss with Epiphones for me, but when they're a hit, the guitar's usually great and superb, as this one was. I liked how is wasn't too heavy, at least for me, and all satin. Satin necks are so comfortable, but anyways, that's a nice axe!! Edited October 12, 2012 by default236
