The detractors of the later Rush albums, that we see here day after day in various threads, prompted this poll.

I'm expecting a positive result too, ie one of the top 5 choices winning this poll or else! There better be NO votes for 10% or 25% or IP addresses will be logged and heads will roll!!!

Interesting.

Discounting feedback (because I can), this makes 17 studio albums.

This means each album is worth about 5.88% for the purpose of this poll.

If we define "mostly good" as at least two thirds of each album being acceptable then that would mean for me that there were twelve "mostly good" albums. This means that I reckon that 70% are in the category.

So there you go wink.gif

That's good logic....and how I arrived at the (rounded up) 80% I voted for. smile.gif To me the only inconsitent albums are the first three. The rest do vary...but even the worst of them is at least half or better really good to my ears.

Everything but T4E and to a lesser extent CP are almost all great tunes. Not sure if that equals 90%, but that's what I voted.

I disregarded Rush's output, after 1987. It's only recently that I decided that I should give the later stuff a listen.

On the downside; I have never seen Rush live, and missed out on some great performances.

On the upside; I've had a blast catching up and listening to a wealth of back catalogue.

Anyway, because of my newfound interest in Rush I joined this forum.

Wow. Your "Rush story" is eerily similar to mine.

Welcome.

Rush have been my favorite band since that faithful night when I first heard Tom Sawyer, upon the release of Moving Pictures. I have patiently waited on each subsequent release & tour. I find that each record is pleasing to my ear, although sometimes it takes a little longer for some of the music to really grab me.

Far be it from me to criticize any of their work.

Alright... In my humble opinion:

1) Rush, yes

2) Fly by Night, yes

3) Caress of Steel, yes

4) 2112, yes

5) A Farewell to Kings, yes

6) Hemispheres, yes

7) Permanent Waves, yes

8) Moving Pictures, yes

9) Signals, yes

10) Grace Under Pressure, yes

11) Power Windows, yes

12) Hold Your Fire, yes

13) Presto, hell no

14) Roll the Bones, yes, I've come around to it

15) Counterparts, no

16) Test for Echo, no

17) Vapour Trails, yes

14 out of 17! That makes 82.352941176471%! I will now go and vote accordingly! biggrin.gif
