I mean close to easy listening levels of mayhem deficiency? I'm talking no real distortion, some brush drumming, fingerstyle acoustic driven tunes and very low vocals... This isn't out of the question especially as Neil has called the music they've written so far "spiritual" Would this kind of scenario be ok with you as long as the songs were good? It could be something like Opeth's Damnation which is a damn fine album. After all I like Presto, even the chorus at the end of War Paint, so what do I know?? What I think is much more important is that they remember that it's what you don't put in that makes a song good. Personally though I dont think they will ever be able to top Vapor Trails again for the rest of thier career, that album was ferociously intense and revealing, especially knowing where a lot of the song inspiration for the band was coming from. Yes, perhaps one song may be somewhat "mellow" (A La "speed of love"), but to suggest that a whole release would be "mellow" is the same as suggesting one doesn't really know what Rush is all about.
