And The White Stripes briefly mentioned they've listened to Rush in the past to warm up for gigs.

Source?

That really surprises me.

It suprised me too. It's in the White Stripes FAQ on ws.net. All of the info is sourced, so I'll try to find it. They also warm up with AC/DC. I thought that was an even bigger suprise. Jack also namedrops Neil all the time, most of the time with something like, 'We never wanted Meg to be an amazing drummer like Neil Peart...'.

Guess we can add The Flaming Lips to our list:

From the regular music section article on What You Don't Know About... The Flaming Lips

4. THEY GET A RUSH FROM RUSH

Taking a break, Drozd and co-producer Dave Fridmann agree that Rush's sci-fi prog classic 2112 is a sweet candidate for a surround-sound remix. "That track 'Discovery,' where he finds the guitar by the waterfall, would sound cool whizzing around your head," says Drozd. Fridmann sends an IM to a friend at Rush's label, Universal. "My guy is looking into it," reports Fridmann. You heard it here first.

Jack Black

I wouldn't have pegged Jack Black as a Rush fan. In fact, just the opposite. I had a Tenacious D cover of (part of) Red Barchetta, and he started it off by saying something like "Does anyone here like Rush? I f***ing hate them!" It could have been sarcasm, but he sounded serious.

Something tells me Lester Bangs would've hated Rush.

Some other celebrity Rush fans:
Mike Myers
Randy Johnson (the major league pitcher; HUGE fan)
Primus
Dream Theater
Sepultura
Living Colour
Sebastian Bach

Some other guesses:
Matthew McConaghey (wore starman shirt in "Ed TV")
Ben Folds (wore starman shirt in one of his videos)
Tragically Hip (drummer had a Rush logo on his bass drum)

laugh.gif yeah eh

I'm reading his books right now...man he didn't like the Beatles after they broke up. He bashed MC5 a lot too. He probably wasn't really into that stuff...since it really wasn't rock and roll.

If he wasn't a fan he wouldn't have been at their concert on the last tour....he wouldn't have appeared on stage with them either if he wasn't a fan sarcasm.gif

And I just remembered seeing Jamie Foxx on "Inside the Actors Studio"  with James Lipton and he told Lipton he became a fan of Rush and some other rock groups through a college room mate of his.

I remember seeing this also, what a least expected pleasant suprise complement! What i remember about this Jamie was talking about being exposed to different kinds of music in college. And his room mate was a big RUSH fan and the other group he was into was KISS. He kept bugging Jamie to listen to RUSH who went on to say he wasen't sure about listening to crazy white boy rock (or something along those lines) laugh.gif

But he decided to go along with it and put a RUSH album on and said it blew him away how intricate and complex it was this wonderful instrumentation. Love to hear this stuff smile.gif I wonder what he listened to .

Mickey Hart-Grateful Dead

Really??? What's the source for that? That is so cool!

He and Neil are friends, according to Neil in Travelling Music.

There is also passing mention in "Contents Under Pressure" that Mickey and Neil were working together for the Smithsonian. Not sure what it was, only that it was a native American music project.

Some of the guys from Blue's Traveler have mentioned the boys in a nice light as well.

Jon Stewart from The Daily Show on comedy central once said I use to be a big RUSH fan but now I like music for grown ups. angry.gif I don't know what the hell that means either. Then i remember The Bare naked ladies performed on the show and during the interview segment Jon tried to put another dig on RUSH. Saying you guys are the biggest thing to come out of Canada since RUSH. The lead singer for the ladies responded they still are as far as were concerned! And Jon ended it by saying well Geddy Lee thanks you. Now don't get me wrong I love The Daily Show very funny but any bashing of 2.gif is unexceptable !
