Louder Now and In Love And Death are two of my emo faves! Mix in some MCR, Jimmy, Juliana, Biffy and AFI and you have a 2000s party mix for me

Worked from home for part of the day.  Took dad to his last physical therapy session at the VA for his knees in the PM (now we just have to start on his shoulders) but this gave me a chance to dive into my vinyl again.  First out of the box:

CCR - The Royal Albert Hall Concert

Live CCR recorded in April of 1970.  Good stuff.  Next out of the box:

Godspell - Soundtrack to the rock musical

The soundtrack from a rock musical which was based on the Gospel according to Matthew.  According to the liner notes it won the Grammy Award as the best musical of the year.  It was copyrighted in 1972 and I believe my older sister brought this home and then left it when she went away to college.  I remember listening to it a ton as a kid.  So it likely dates to 1971 or 1972.  Some of it sounds like Broadway show tunes, some sounds like vaudville tunes.  Its been about 7 or 8 years since I went to meeting (I am Quaker) and not very religious but this still hits the spot.  Extremely enjoyable.  Next out of the box:

John Denver - Rocky Mountain High

Another one my sister passed along to me.  Title track is still excellent.  Tunes like "Mother Natures Son", "Paradise", "For Baby (For Bobbie)"  and the anti Viet Nam war "Prisoners" are all very good as well.  "Season Suite" is ambitious and decent as well.  Good album.  Next out of the box:

Heart - Bad Animals

This starts with "Who Will You Run To", "Alone" & "There's The Girl" which are all strong.  But the rest of the album is just filler (IMO).  Last out of the box:

The Outfield - Play Deep

This starts with "Say It Isn't So" & "Your Love" both of which are strong.  The rest is filler but it was high quality filler.  Much better then I remembered and frankly I may go back and listen to it again.  It was almost enjoyable filler.  Much, much better quality then the filler on the Heart album (notwithstanding the excellent Anne Wilson vocals).

Best studio album of the day?  Hmmm, honestly, Godspell.  Followed by Rocky Mountain High.  Bad Animals & Play Deep are sort of tied.  Hearts 3 strong songs are one more strong song then The Outfield had and their 3 songs were slightly better then The Outfields songs.  But Play Deep is just a deeper and more rounded album.  So I guess I will change my answer and say The Outfield edges out Heart.

Overall an enjoyable day musically.

I added that Grimm Winter album to my library. I’ll have to check it out. I love the other two. I recently got TBS’ Where You Want To Be on vinyl, so now I have the first three, plus their newest album

It means a lot to me as they’re friends of mine and gave me a couple of my first gigs in town as a solo singer and then with my band. I wouldn’t call it top notch, but I have a personal attachment to it that smoothes over the rough edges. Hope you enjoy! Probably the best tracks are Like George Bailey, Falling Up, and People Talking To People.

I really didn’t enjoy TBS’s newest album when it came out last year, but Louder Now and Tell All Your Friends are addictive for me. Still have to check out the rest of them!

They hit a different spot for me, closet to Death Cab, early Coldplay and the slicker side of Idlewild for me

one of my favs by them.  First time i heard them i was in love immediatly.  i thought this band/dude (Wilson) is keeping the classic prog i grew up on alive.  of course it's got the heavier guitars on top.  i love this band.

If you like Tell All Your Friends and Louder Now, I think you’ll enjoy Where You Want To Be. It’s their only other album with the same lineup as Louder Now. The lead guitarist/co-lead vocalist on those albums, Fred Mascherino, was a big part of the sound, and I love Matt Rubano on bass. Tell All Your Friends, plus their last four albums have sounding guitarist/co-lead vocalist John Nolan, plus bassist Shaun Cooper, a personal favorite bassist of mine. Their fourth album has Matt Rubano on bass, and it’s their only album with Matt Fazzi on lead guitar.
