Oh boy.

As much as I love Thin Lizzy, I still have not heard like half the albums, so my votes are probably going to look pretty strange for a while. The least great one I’ve heard so far is Renegade, which starts off fantastic but gets a bit Thin Lizzy by the numbers in the second half. Important to note that Thin Lizzy by the numbers is still great, just a bit less great. As for immunity, that goes to Vagabonds Of The Western World. They hadn’t made the switch to having two guitarists yet, and this would be the last record with their original axe man, but MAN. This dude could play. His solos are each harrowing journeys within Phil’s awesome stories of songs.  The mood and vibe of this album is heavy, hazy, but with a good heart at it’s core. Phil writes from the perspective of Mother Nature, condemning mankind for pollution on the opening track. Later on he’s writing a touching poem for a girl soon to become a mother.  He play’s the role of the broken hearted lover, the mad prophet, the killer on the streets, and of course The Rocker. The solo in that one alone should be enough to convince anyone that Eric Bell was a genius.  Anyway the deluxe version is also home to some of the non album singles this lineup recorded, including their definitive cover of Whiskey In The Jar. I simply live their version of this song, and I often play it on repeat when I return to it. It’s just that great. So save Vagabonds.

Oh, this is gonna get painful very quickly. I basically learned the Thin Lizzy discography in reverse (I started with Thunder & Lightning), so I'm casting a sentimental vote to preserve that one, but that early-mid '70s stuff is so great.

Another band where I only know the 'live'/best of tracks and maybe the odd other album (Thunder in Lightning in particular). How does one keep up with all these bands' output???

I voted the last two albums out .... the star was fading at this stage.

I know what you mean MN , there aren’t enough hours of free time in the day !🙃

I rate T&L as John Sykes heavy riffs and blisteringly fast ( but still melodic ) solos

kept TL relevant as they entered the start of the mid 80s IMHO 😉

🤔 For their earlier material to enjoy in more depth ,

I recommend you check out firstly Jailbreak , Bad Reputation & Black Rose

Thanks for the that. I love T&L - Lizzy at the heaviest I'm guessing especially Cold Sweat.

I actually have Chinatown on LP somewhere but being in that format, it won't get played for a long time.

Started listening to Johnny the Fox on some streaming service a while back and was enjoying it - must resume....
