jnoble
Vapor Trails. Its got no guitar solos or keyboards or synths or instrumentals but also none of the bands trademark wry wit or humor anywhere. For that album it wouldn't have been appropriate. But add up all those things plus the dense metal sound and voila, odd non-Rush sounding Rush album
Rick N. Backer
Unique, as in not like any other Rush album, I'll go with HYF. Soft, easy listening AM radio-friendly, sterile-sounding, dominated by synths. Agreed. It was at that point I said, “who are these guys?” It was clear that the experiment of GUP (in my eyes) was actually what they had become.
goose
FBN - doesn't really have that "sister record" I always saw CoS as its "sister record". vibe-wise...Bastille Day = AnthemLakeside = In The End/Making Memories And, of course, you have the ByTor saga parts 1 & 2. good points - I always thought CoS was a warm up to 2112 and sonically they really sound the same, but I think you make a case for FBN and CoS being a couple too.FBN-2112 = power trio? Red3angel
The more I think about it I think the most unique album for them is vapor trails. That album little to no joy . I just mean most rush albums there’s a sense of hope in them that rush album feels like I’m recovering in the hospital. I’m sure has something to do with the prior events. KenJennings
Vapor Trails. For Rush to come back after all they'd been through, not brooding and melancholic, but more energetic and edgy than they'd ever been; was really a stunner.

goose
Rush - obvious reason - no NeilFBN - doesn't really have that "sister record" ala Cos/2112 AFTK/Hem PeW/MPFeedback - another obvious one Yessir, Feedback sticks out like a sore thumb as it’s the only Rush album with music not written by Rush. I never thought about it before, but there are no cover songs on any Rush album, other than Feedback...and parts of Signals. :P

Glad they didn't end their career with that cluster.

Lurkst
The debut album sticks out like a sore thumb. Different lineup, different music.
Rick N. Backer
Power Windows is a musical fusion full of flavors. There is so much going on it's almost jazzy in it's musical execution. A "soundscape" if you will. I was absolutely hooked when it came out and I still love it today...Power Windows is in my top three albums based on the “airplay” I give it. Why?

They later gave Scott some money for this, which was good of them. It’s cool how they took that theme (appears at 1:25 below) and twisted it into 12/8 and 7/8. Fun!Are there other cover-bits from LVS that have been identified? Or is it just the R Scott bit? Btw, that’s John Williams (jr.) the composer’s father on drums, Johnny Williams. Excellent drummer.
