  1. I just read an article about this remake. Apparently Chapman is (at least publicly) ok with it. She's gaining new fans because of it. She's got to be getting royalties like crazy. It's been #1 on the Country charts for three weeks running, a position she didn't reach on any chart in the U.S. in 1988. And she is now the first black woman to have written a #1 Country hit. Combs said he's been performing the song in his concerts for the last six years, and when he does, everyone sings along. I wonder what Chapman would have said if he'd contacted her to ask he permission to record and release it. I heard it on the radio again this morning. I keep the radio on for my dogs when they are sleeping or in the house alone, and I have it on the Country station because the music is generally mellow. Needless to say, I've heard this song quite a bit over the last few weeks.
  2. I've heard this song on the radio a couple of times now, and I really just don't believe him when he sings "I had a feeling that I belonged. I had a feeling I could be someone."
  3. I really love Discipline, and I'm starting to wonder if Beat isn't just as good. I used to like Three of a Perfect Pair a lot more back in the early 90's, but not nearly as much now. I only got into Thrak a couple of years ago, but I really quite enjoy it. One tough part about playing Thrak is, Fripp was using New Standard Tuning by then, and that's not something you can just tune your guitar to and expect good things to happen.
  4. I didn't say it was awful, or that John Taylor is not a great bass player. But Rio is in the Top Five in all of Rock?
  5. Do you smoke it, or take it in the arm?
  6. You can't go wrong with an iPhone or an Android phone, really. I've been using an Android platform phone since probably 2010. My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S22. If it matters to you, the iPhones are made in China, and the Samsung phones are made on South Korea.
  7. Oh wait, I see the title was changed from the original. So the original was just plain savage. That's even better, honestly, especially since it existed, but I didn't have to see it.
  8. This is a band I always feel like I need to check out more. As a guitarist, I hear a lot about their tones and use of fuzz, the whole stoner rock thing. One of my favorite pedal companies even makes a Big Muff style fuzz tweaked specifically for this type of music, and references QOTSA as an example.
  9. Hold Your Fire Presto Roll the Bones Test for Echo HYF was the first new Rush to come out after I was a cemented fan. I bought it, but it's never gotten a lot of spins, not when I had the back catalog that was so good. Presto was supposed to be a return to form, stripped down Rush, and it was, but again, not a lot of spins. RTB is the interesting one here. I really liked it a lot when it came out. The whole Chance theme was really appealing to me at the time, but after CP came out, RTB really fell by the wayside, and to this day I generally shun it. I would even use Dreamline and Roll The Bones as bathroom break opportunities during the later concerts. So did a lot of other people. T4E never really grabbed me at all. I've heard the term "Rush by numbers" to describe Rush's sometimes formulaic approach to writing songs, and to me that phenomenon is most present on this record. Even my favorite song on the album, Time and Motion, is only my favorite because it progressive hard rock Rush...by numbers.
  10. Have you ever watched the movie The Blues Brothers?
  11. I need to correct something on this post - As you can on the top left corner of the pedal, it requires and 18v power adaptor, not a 9v that I previously stated.
  12. If I've been listening to The Yes Album or Close to the Edge a lot, I'll force myself to revisit Tales from Topographic Oceans, Relayer, or Going For The One because they are all great, but I don't gravitate towards them as much as the other two.
  13. I don't have any issues with Geddy being second. But Steve Harris in first place? Nah.
  14. It's absolutely a matter of personal taste. Personally, I gave up on saying "best" and "worst" years ago in and just talked in terms of "favorite" and "least favorite." Granted, when I say a particular album is my favorite, I am saying it is the best, but only to me.
  15. I keep saying Grace Under Pressure, even though it might be Permanent Waves.
  16. What's interesting is that in the LZ subreddit, most of the people seem to really like Presence, and then look down on In Through The Out Door. I much prefer ITTOD to Pr, though. But I am right there with Rick's assessment - LZ 2 is my favorite (I bought the tape when I was 15 and listened to it like crazy.) Zoso, HotH , and PG are their creative peak, with PG being very close to being my favorite now. Presence is not so great, and ITTOD was better, but not as great as the peak albums.
  17. I've read that they would open with Siberia Khatru because it allowed them to expel a large amount of their pre-show nervous energy right at the beginning, and they could settle in to play the more precision demanding pieces.
  18. That album changed my life forever in 1984.
  19. I watched a LOT of SoT during 2020. I give Pete a lot of credit for reigniting my fandom of King Crimson and Led Zeppelin, and even getting me to think of The Rolling Stones as something other than a band that is way too over played of Classic Rock radio. But it crushed me when his audience chose UFO's Strangers In The Night over Yessongs and Exit...Stage Left as the greatest live album of all time. Maybe if he redid that poll now Rush - Live from YYZed would get top billing. Or maybe not.
  20. It's my first Sunburst and first flame maple top (albeit just a veneer.) This was the guitar I wanted from seeing pictures of it from the store online. It had the best burst and edges. There was another guitar there that had better flaming in the top that I could have been tempted to get instead. But there was another guy there who was buying it. I think the store did pretty good business that day.
  21. But he's crazy spoon-head man! He's got a damn spoon sticking out of his head! Now give him some can-deeeeee!!!
