  1. Shockingly bad? I'd love to see your work. Heaven forbid he has interests outside music. Ever notice that really bright people are interested in a lot of things? Being famous helps getting one's work noticed, but being famous for something else doesn't make your work less worthy. And no, I'm not a fanboi. I couldn't give a flying f**k what he is interested in...I think his writing stinks and am perfectly at liberty to say so. I find it tediously boring and stilted and this has nothing to do with him being a member of Rush. Also, I'm not trying to sell my work in the public arena, so my writing skills are a moot point. I'm not interested either whether you are a fanboi or not...knock yourself out. You're missing the point. Many people ARE interested in his adventures and hobbies, and because he's famous and has some money it's easier to make one's work available. Good for him. That's the way it is. The point I was making is he wouldn't be selling any books at all if he wasn't the drummer from RUSH. The publishers know a lot of his fans will buy his stuff therefore he gets a contract. this is exactly right. he's a f***ing terrible writer and absolutely no one would pay for his writing if he wasn't the drummer of rush. "Terrible"? That's ridiculous, and if you really believe that, tell us why. I'm curious. As for his work being published, the world isn't fair. People get jobs, for example, simply because of where they went to school or their last name, not necessarily at all based on knowledge or merit or work ethic. he's repetitive. he harps on his tastes and his pet peeves and keeps writing the same things over and over again with no new insight. he quotes his own works constantly, which is TERRIBLE form. he gathers together letters he wrote to friends and treats them as if they're meaningful prose for a wider audience instead of using them as source material to write a true narrative. UGH.

  3. it will be interesting to see if he says anything meaningful or if he does his usual "tell you enough to pique your interest but not enough to give you any insight" thing. He probably won't tell us a whole lot only because he's saving it for his book. he never tells us anything in the books either. except that he likes macallan and rocks and flowers and trees and bmws, and that he and mosbach like pretend to be gay even though they aren't.

  5. he's boring as hell when he's not being offensive!
  6. onstage, wow. on the one hand he died doing what he loved! on the other, that's a heck of a way to ruin a gig!
  7. i put the three 21st century rush albums up there with the band's best work.
  8. losing it is an overrated dirge
  9. I'd be more than happy if they worked with another drummer, called the project something else, and worked with Brown for even a one-off EP. No way... No Neil, No Rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH! geddy and alex should never work again now that neil doesn't want to! how dare anyone even think of it! geddy and alex have to be RUSH and if they can't be RUSH they can't be anything! hell they probably shouldn't even hang out together because then they might jam and that would be too close to RUSH! jeez people have some respect for the greatest drummer of all time and the band he was the only member of who mattered!
  10. Disembodied Spirit, with all due respect to you, would you please show a little respect...people are more than a little saddened by this loss and you making "jokes" isn't really appropriate...thank you, I appreciate it. In order to maintain some level of decorum, I'll only say, you've got to be kidding me. I'll bet no one here knew Prince personally. No one here knows any of his family. No one here is going to his funeral. If a joke is harming your delicate psyche, seek help. People deal with death in different ways. A joke is a great way to bring some people back to reality when they are so absorbed in an event that really has nothing to do with any of us. In other words, get over yourself. ReGorLaTroy is the epitome of class on this forum, and you have a long way to go So ... Mr Mao Zedong, I am sure you can understand when I say: 他妈的关闭 Ahh, so solly. Me no speak Chinese. Classy. Crassy* ;) I was once run over by Toyota. Ohhhhh what a feeling. you asked for it, you got it!
  11. If I squint and mentally superimpose the Starchild face paint, I believe Bea Arthur could pass as Paul. http://www.kissarmy.sk/FanclubSlovakia/fotky/Paul%202006.jpg i think she looks more like gene! http://www.necramonium.com/photos/-Rare-Gene-Simmons-Pict/Gene85.4.jpg
  12. Which is what exactly? Musicians can vary in their determination to keep going. It's easier for Geddy (and/or Alex) to keep going than it is for Neil since playing drums is more of an "all over body" workout than playing a guitar/bass. exactly. that age in and of itself doesn't dictate whether someone wants to quit! i love it when people pay attention to what they're replying to! or was it my fault for not using the quote chain doohhh
  13. neil is less than a year older than geddy, the point is still the same.
  14. I think he was more or less just parroting Ray Daniel's opinions. Ray's just annoyed thinking about all the $$$ lost. I find it amusing that someone like him - a wheeler and a dealer if there ever was one - should suddenly get moral. What Ray fails to realize because its his job to protect his and the bands bottom lines is that being ripped off is up to the consumer with regard to recording quality. In the absence of a live album people were happy to pay for an audience recording (and just look at what the Dead and Pearl Jam have done with that) to get more and different live recordings (I even remember Vapor Trails tour boots). To dismiss them as crap is too much, yes they are not professional recordings, but if not, then why are people buying them? Ray says what Ray has to say, but some of it is just obviously support for his industry, especially because many in that industry are becoming wholly irrelevant now. this interview may or may not still reflect how ray danniels feels, but some things are different now. someone said earlier this interview was from the spring of 80. back then audience recordings WERE crap, and the music industry was still powerful.
  15. He KNEW it was coming - there was no betrayal. Granted, he heard about it in a round about way, but that doesn't excuse his dictating the number of shows and totally dissing the overseas fans in the process. Heheheh, so you're convinced of that, huh? Then please allow me to introduce you to the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the Lock Ness Monster! :D You do know that the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, The "Loch" Ness monster and Neil have never been seen at the same place at the same time. Coincidence? I think not. If he was officially finished...there would be no reason for Neil not to come out and say "Geddy and Alex can do what they want with my blessing, but I'm finished!!!". It's possible that he wanted to give some time to see how he feels and will make an announcement then, but the longer it goes, the better the vibes I get. either that or he just doesn't think he owes anyone any explanations. that whole "my daughter says i'm retired" thing was passive-aggressiveness at its finest!
  16. chuck is not really all that honest. he might not lie outright but he's devious as f**k. he lies by omission and in his own way is just as much of a con man as jimmy. chuck is not actually a 'good' guy. he might be upstanding and respectable but he'll stab you in the back in a hot minute if it suits him. and jimmy is dishonest but is not evil, he is loyal almost to a fault to his own people. you can't put these characters into a simple scheme of 'good' and 'bad.' the moral complexity makes this show so fascinating.
  17. discover their rich weird wonderful catalog, you are in for a treat
  18. about ten years ago i heard an interview with geddy where he said that as a band they were driven by the feeling that they'd done some pretty good albums but that they still hadn't done their best work, and still hoped to. regardless of what anyone might think about when they peaked creatively, that's a fantastic attitude that i have always admired.
  19. As a musician you should always strive to be the best you can be on your instrument. Ultimately they play for their own enjoyment, and if others like it that's great. That doesn't necessarily mean you can write good songs. Songwriting and technical proficiency are two different things. ha, much better answer than mine :goodone:
  20. so what, you should just go die after you reach some theoretical creative peak that you don't even know you've reached until years later when a bunch of overly critical fans decide you did? also, geddy was never the world's greatest singer but overall journey's best material barely touches rush's worst.
  21. Ged, you're gettin old! "I think we played 2112 in its entirety on the R30 tour" :laughing guy: they don't care about those kinds of details the way fans do.
  22. they won't call it dirxst if they know what that really refers to!
