  1. Had a great birthday! Got hired on for a new and hopefully better job. Thanks everyone!
  2. I'd like to hear Al do 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'.
  3. A country that produces improper grammar and syntax is a country that does not deserve RUSH.
  4. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Aug 26 2011, 03:22 PM) I wanna get hit by a tornado... No. No you don't.
  5. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Aug 13 2011, 03:27 PM)There is a difference between spirituality and religion. I think it is the latter that NP has a problem with. I've been to churches full of sheep who worship their pastor and believe anything he tells them. I've been to others where they sat on the fence and didn't believe in much of anything. For me religion is about a relationship with God. I get the feeling that NP is not very interested in that at this time of his life and maybe he never will be. It is fascinating to see him exploring these ideas in his lyrics. Right, except this was the NP of so many years ago. Surely a 'half forgotten stranger' by now eh? QUOTE (trenken @ Aug 14 2011, 09:55 AM)Ever see some terrorists fly a plane into a building, while praising god in their final words believing it's what he wanted them to do? You saw that? Why the hell didn't you stop them? Oh wait, I get it. It's what you BELIEVE. Because someone told you it was true. Someone you trust. Someone you've elevated to a position somewhere between you and..... reality. QUOTE (clem @ Aug 14 2011, 06:45 PM)Cool! A Rush thread on religion that's gone on for two pages and no one is screaming insults at one and other! Great job! Let's keep it up folks! BTW - I remember an interview years ago where he talked about "Totem", he said that all religions have something "good" in them, and to some extent, that's what he was writing about. Example - who wouldn't want 12 disciples and/or a Buddha smile? Keep the Faith Clem 12 descipels who travel 'in one accord'? Sounds like a tight fit to me. You'd think they could at least afford a VW Bus.
  6. 'You cannot have made a choice' is how Neil wrote it. 'You still have made a choice' is how Ged sang it. There's an interview somewhere where Ged say's he changes lyrics occasionally so that they fit better musically, or make more sense to him. Basically, Neil writes what he wants and Ged sings what he wants. This is not the only song which is such a case. Can anyone remember the interview?
  7. QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jul 22 2011, 02:14 AM) Neil never looks comfortable improvising. Notice that Copeland picks up a guitar and plays. Copeland probably knows more about music than anybody that was at that session. I was never impressed by Carey. There was a video out of Neil, Terry Bozzio and Doane Perry. It was cool, but again it made Neil look bad. When you have someone who can improvise endlessly and creatively as Bozzio and somebody like Doane who plays in Tull and all you do is play with Alex and Geddy all the time it is time to go home... There's no question Copeland is the most well rounded musician. He composes, scores, arranges etc. Interesting vid though.
  8. Couldn't get though the first dozen paragraphs or so. Hope it improves. Hope its supposed to be incoherent.
  9. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jun 28 2011, 01:20 AM) There is water at the bottom of the ocean. There is also earth.
  10. Al's most Gilmore-esqe moments. Spectacular stuff.
  11. Another compilation? Well crap, guess I'm just too bored by the lack of new material to be keeping up. Bring on the new stuff!!!!

  13. Put a copy of each album cover on the wall and throw a couple of darts. Listen, learn and choose.
  14. The intro to Anthem is absolutely stellar. The guitar solo is good but it's not worth listening to the chorus twice to get to it. The chorus is the prob.
  15. QUOTE (Scars @ Jun 22 2011, 08:34 PM) Because people have their head up their arse when it comes to the synth era. Geddy's bass playing was arguably at it's peak during that time, but people are so busy moping over the fact that there's an additional instrument that they never bother to notice. There is a fair amount of cranio-rectal inversion syndrome when it comes to Ged and the synth era.
  16. SC has always been my second favorite. You know who's first. Bonham rounds out the trifecta.
  17. QUOTE (StellarJetman @ Jun 20 2011, 03:55 PM) I'm surprised that "A Farewell to Kings" has so many votes, especially given that it's up against the 2112 intro. It's not a bad song, but it isn't all that great, either. Wrong. It's just spectacular. It's my personal anthem. It's very gratifying to see so many agree. I'm acutally going to vote in this pole for the first time in years.
  18. QUOTE (CutToTheBass @ Jun 5 2011, 02:32 AM) Explain to me why people seem to think that The Trees is easy to sing? It's about as easy as 70's Ged gets. Outside of the ballads of course. I can still pull it off on a good day. ------------------------------------------ Of those not mentioned I'll go with Kid Gloves. Right in my wheelhouse.
  19. QUOTE (The Owl @ May 6 2011, 08:12 AM) we agree with you guys, the quicker the better. Just how guy's usually feel.
  20. QUOTE (Nate1647 @ May 12 2011, 10:25 PM) Great work. Wish it was in the right key though Noticed that too. Is it easier higher up? Still, great work.
  21. Try singing 'You cannot have made a choice'. Ged made it work for the song and Neil's lyrics were left in tact. Try to keep up.
