  1. I never liked the song on the album. Seeing it live was an entirely different story. They did a really nice presentation of it. Liked it a lot.
  2. The amazing thing is that he recorded most of his parts for that record in an afternoon. He said, at the time, that he'd had a couple of glasses of wine beforehand. So there you have the result, uninhibited Bruce - in his prime.
  3. Is there a way we can send in a little donation? It's the least I can do for everything you've given us. And thank you very much for that, btw. We've always been hesitant to provide a "Donate" button. It's hard to explain why we feel that way, but it just seems, I don't know...not right. It's a common problem with sites like this, that are run by 1 guy or a small team. I don't know that there's an easy way to do it. But thnk you for making this what it is. It's a fine site, and looks like a good crowd.
  4. I remember you. Good to see you here. Everyone... thanks again. Except GW. Who gets a resounding Meh. (not really)
  5. I was around St Petersburg when I thought it was time for a change. No, not Russia. Tampa. ;)
  6. Thank you for your kind welcomes folks. I promise to play nice, mostly. ;)
  7. ..I'm a man of Rush and something that rhymes with fate..... Hello. I'm the new guy. I got started with the old AOL Rush board. In the ancient days of 1994. AOL used to have a posting system much like a modern bulletin board, but it was within their own software. They had a board or group for every topic imaginable. This was the days before the internet (AKA The Information Superhighway) was opened up to the common user. Anyway on that board I learned about the TNMS mailing list. Oh, what fun that was. The good old days. :) Then the internet arrived in mid 95..for me anyway. Eventually the TNMS website was put up. Various little sites then with bits and snippets of news. I could never figure out why high tech Rush never had their own site. Then after the tragedy, came the Geddyboard in 2000? 2001? I was grepNYC there. Good times on that board before it fell apart. Got involved in some heavy projects at work, and basically retired from the Rush internet scene for a while. I think I was on Trinet for a bit. Got banned... got pissed off..... Then I joined Counterparts in 06. When it was really grooving. I'm still over there, it's a relatively small community these days. We like to call it a Biker Bar. ;) It's a little rough sometimes, but what I love about it is that the mods give us a lot of freedom to just discuss stuff. Now I'm here, after lurking on and off for a number of years. I like that the talk is really more serious, and more fun about the band itself. Want to get back to some of that. So, thanks for having me.

    YES or NO game

No. Do you like B&W photographs?
  9. Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater uses an iPad as part of his keyboard setup. He's got some touch pad based MIDI app with a virtual keyboard.... might even have some sort of Theramin kind of thing going on with that app as well. http://rekkerd.org/img/200909/jordan_rudess_synthogy.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/XPawdstb9hE/maxresdefault.jpg

    Not Good

A lot of times it's pressure, and the booze is an easy escape. Then you find yourself escaping all the time. Viscious cycle. I'm lucky i think. I've been through rough times 2x in my adult life, and both I turned to drink. Fortunately the first time I saw it for what it was and woke myself up. The second time... well earlier this year my very patient wife got me to realize. All she said was "As smart as you are, don't you see how easy it is to lose control"? I never used to have sympathy for alcoholics, but now from my own experience I see how it mainfests itself. You think.. just a little more, just a little more. ...... I don't know any of you guys. I'm still the new guy... but whoever this person is with the problem, I hope he finds his help. And for the host and his lady.... you 2 are saints. I don't know if I'd take some dude in, with such a problem. Even understanding the nature of it. Good luck to the 3 of you.... from NYC. You don't say? I know you are the "new guy" so you wouldn't know that I AM an alcoholic. It's just that I've been sober since 1987. Not sure how you took my comment. But no offense intended to anyone.
  11. All the MIDI answers. He can get all the ounds he needs from a PC or a rack processor.
  12. I'd say CA. Neil also said that PeW had the songs loosely connected. With different stories about freedoms and individuality. But it's not a concept album by any means.
  13. Kind of wanted to hear that rumored, heavier FBN. I wish AF2K could have made an appearance too. Also. we needed more Hemispheres, less CX-1.
  14. In The Mood is also Robert Plant... come to think of it.
  15. Oh their bass player is spectacular.
  16. They've opened for KISS twice. Can you believe it? They've opened for KISS!
  17. In The Mood - It's an old swing song, isn't it? Edit: Had to google. Glen Miller.
  18. No disrespect, but light topping? Alex was complaining that he had to cut through the synths on Subs. Countdown? I think Geddy plays just as much keyboards as he does bass. But the rest of the songs... OK, maybe they aren't as synth 'heavy'. But you can hear the change in direction on that record. I still think the Synth Era starts with either Subs or Vital, 1 record back.
  19. Don't you mean Tyrion Lannister? :) Well Peter plays Tyrion (AKA, The Imp). His brother must then be Jamie. No?
  20. I was at both Newark and MSG. Was absolutely mindblown by Jamie Lannister's song in Newark. Less so at MSG, but it was still great seeing it back to back both nights. I was happy enough just to know that Ladder was in all their sets..... BTW, I hear that The Imp was at MSG too, watching his brother play.
