  1. OK.This is how it goes. Name your ultimate rock band incorporating the following: One vocalist-One or Two guitarists(lead or rhythm)-One Bass-One or Two Keys-One drums-plus any other member of your choice playing any instrument not already mentioned. GEDDY,NEIL AND ALEX ARE NOT ALLOWED IN YOUR CHOICES!!! This is my choice: Vocals: James LaBrie (Dream Theater). Guitars:Steve Howe (Yes). Guitars:Joe Satriani. Bass:John Paul Jones ( Led Zeppelin). Keys:Keith Emerson (ELP). Drums:Phil Collins (Genesis) plus guest musician Saxophone:Michael Brecker. You can use musicians from any genre of music.Have a go! I'm sure some or most of my choices will not be what you choose!
  2. P.C.is certainly up there with the best rock drummers and while his performances with Genesis are superb, what is always overlooked are his contribution to the brilliant Brand X.Great jazz rock, and on the odd occasion you get the voice of Collins too!
  3. That's a pretty good review of all things Tull and GG.As far as GG is concerned Cyclonus X-1 might have some more input on this subject, but Tull basically began as a blues band, and they're first two or three albums reflect this. All three are excellent records.Aqualung came then,as well as Thick As A Brick, and these two are essential listening for any Tull fan or prog fan for that matter! In the mid seventies,Tull recorded some interesting pieces, but for me ,not quite hitting the heights of previous releases. Then came three quintessential Tull records:Minstrel in the Gallery-Songs From The Wood-Heavy Horses. These three were more prog with folk music, but quite brilliant. For me they peaked at this time( Late Seventies).Live : Bursting Out is a good live document at this time. From the eighties, and onwards they're releases were strong, solid efforts, and are certainly worth investigating.Avoid Under Wraps though! Also now that dear Mr.Anderson has decided to put Jethro Tull to bed,his solo recordings have been nice but only average! Some great material to listen to though with Tull!
  4. WOW!Peter Hammill is one of the very prog God's in my eyes(Along with Gabriel,Fripp and the two Anderson's,Messrs Ian and Jon),and Hammill's baby VDGG is certainly a unique, but entertaining, experience! When I heard Crimson and Gentle Giant,I thought I'd reached the extreme levels of top progressive rock.WRONG.LOUD/OVER-BLOWN/CRAZY etc are just some words I'd use to describe VDGG,but I just love em,and its good to know they're appreciated still.Favourite albums include H to He Who am the Only One,Godbluff, and Pawn Hearts. Also enjoy PH solo too! Nice thread!
  5. The classic neo-prog band!Awesome music, and Nick Barrett plays the guitar in the same vein as Gilmour!Beautiful! If you like Pendragon check out IQ.More classy neo-prog
  6. Will not be giving away any money with their re-release! Happy with my copy thanks!Great album though!
  7. I think most Camel fans would agree that the albums from their self-titled debut up to an including Moonmadness were the band's best records.I'm interested however what the fans thought of the next set of releases, beginning with Breathless up to and including A Single Factor? They're sound did change substantially, but i think these releases were full of quality, and i loved the voice of Richard Sinclair, the ex-Caravan star! When Pete Bardens left they lost one half of a great partnership, but Latimer was a able to steer the band onwards. For me these albums produced one of the "great" solo's that is found during the track " Ice".Class! Any Thoughts on this period of Camel?
  8. Welcome to the U.K.Hope you enjoy your time here!
  9. Have only recently found PFM,and sure a an ace band. The album Chocolate Kings is superb!
  10. NICE! King Crimson are/were such an awesome band, but for me the Bruford-Cross-Fripp-Wetton line up were just magnificent! Studio releases were v.good, but they're live stuff they have released (and there's loads of it!) is amazing!!!
  11. Lady Fantasy is certainly one of Camel's top five songs, but for me Lunar Sea is the bees knees! When it comes to the best prog song i always vote for Genesis/SUPPER'S READY,but as you asked for something that doesn't incorporate the " big three",I'd choose Fracture by King Crimson.Intense to the core! Roll-calls to for ELP/Tarkus,and Gentle Giant/Proclamation. PROG RULES!!!
  12. Sting,Copeland,Summers!Awesome! Sting solo: Very Good! Summers solo: Good.( I Advanced Masked is the album he made with Bob Fripp and is excellent!) Favourite Police song:Bring On The Night. Worst Police song: Every Breath You Take.
  13. Andrew Latimer is up there with the best in prog rock guitarists and composers.Moonmadness is in my top 20 all time favourite albums.Superb group!
  14. A very talented man with a unique voice has left us today.Sad news.R.I.P.Joe Cocker.
  15. You will love the show! Nad Sylvan is the Gabriel sound-a-like,and is impressive!Enjoy!
  16. DREAM THEATRE-SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE. Surely DTs " magnum opus"!
  17. A great progressive band.Andrew Latimer is up there with Lifeson,Hackett,Howe,Gilmour etc.in the best prog guitarist stakes! The Snow Goose,Moonmadness,Mirage, and ALive Record are all superb records!
  18. There have been many, many reviews for the "new" album on various websites today, and its really 50/50 on the positive/negative reviews! For myself it's a beautiful, emotive album, and a fitting tribute to the late Richard Wright.Gilmour,Wright and Mason should be proud of these recordings, and I'm pleased they have made them available. To think they lay in the vaults for 20 yrs is un unthinkable!
  19. Absolutely love both Fish-era M,and H-era M.Clutching At Straws is a superb album,but I then Brave is excellent too!Like both H and Fish vocals.Great band,both era's!
  20. Exactly the order i was thinking of!
  21. I voted for Seconds Out,for the simple reason that S.O.has SUPPER'S READY on it,but Live hasn't!It's a shame that Live wasn't a double album and the they could have included SUPPER'S READY!Los Endos is also superb on S.O.
  22. So i listened to Union earlier this evening for the first time in years.I won't be listening to it again for a long time! I've been thinking are there many bands out there that are influenced by Yes? From the seventies i can think of Starcastle, and more recently Glass Hammer and The Flower Kings from Sweden.(three great bands by the way!)
