I remember him more in recent years as a broadcaster though I recall how some of my family really thought he was a big deal at UCLA. Since 2012 when we started watching the PAC12 network , listening to Walton calls games was very entertaining. I am not a big basketball fan but he made the games fun even when they were boring.
