Tombstone Mountain
The Yukon Blade GrinderSpecial Edition This week Rush Limbaugh issued an apology to the Canadian rock band RUSH, for past-unapproved use of their music for his wildly popular radio show, broadcast on the EIB Network. Recently, the legendary band's management put out a statement condemning the use of their music, and likened it as tacit approval and endorsement for Limbaugh's political and ideological views without their consent. In response to the bands request, and as a way to reimburse the outfit for their troubles, Limbaugh will air and review the entirety of the new album Moist on his radio show this week. The bands manager, Ray Daniels was reached for comment and had this to say: "We don't have a clue as to why he would use our music without expressed-written permission. When I heard about it, I tried calling his representative--some guy named Snerdley,--and didn't get a valid response. Emails followed, still nothing of substance." Daniels then went on to say, "We thought, well this is an example of American arrogance of the worst kind. Canadians are wired so differently. I mean we say thank you to the ATM machine when withdrawing funds. So, we knew this had to go a step further." That's when the threat of legal action and documents were delivered by none other than the band drummer, Neil Peart (pronounced peert), at the AT & T pro-am golf tournament held at Pebble Beach. "He approached me in a totally unexpected way. You see, celebrities at these events don't bring their own caddies; we blindly hire them hoping for the best. There I saw this tall, very fit man wearing some kind of funky hat, and thought "well, he looks strong enough to carry the bag for 18 holes." Limbaugh then paused, reflected and added, "It wasn't until I noticed his odd club suggestion that I suspected something was amiss. Here I need a putter, and the guy gives me a plunger. At that point I knew it was sabotage. And, when he would hand me a club he would always say something that sounded crazy, but in the same breath, was totally profound." Limbaugh marked down on his scorecard the various offerings of wisdom, circling the best of the day. His favorite was on hole 10 when Limbaugh spanked his drive into the ocean and recalled Peart saying "You will pay the price, but you will not count the cost" and then handed him another golf ball. A close second, Limbaugh said Neil was talking to him while in the port-a-potty "the price of what you're winning is the same as what you've lost." Third best that day was when Limbaugh kicked his ball out of the rough on 14 and could hear Neil saying under his breath "It's really just a question of your honesty, yeah, your honesty." Peart, who rarely does interviews, and is considered the most private of the group, had this to say when reached: "On the last hole I pulled my ipad from the bag and played a pre-recorded video message from Alex, Geddy, and Ray. He didn't know quite what to do at that point other than offer a mea culpa. The message was direct and non-equivocal. Watching his reaction was amusing as I rested the ipad on the bag. He looked shocked when Ray followed up Ged and Al by saying--"I'm talking scorched earth mother f*cker!!!--now, how are you going to make this right?" Limbaugh and Peart worked out the deal on the 19th, at the famous watering hole where Limbaugh agreed to the album unveiling and also write down details of the odd request to make custom tea drinks for each band member, designed specifically for themselves to drink on tour from his own line of designer tea. The brand, "Two if by Tea", will now offer a MaCallan flavored tea, a weird merlot, earl grey concoction, and Alex's own exotic canadian mustard/gorgonzola tea. Limbaugh followed up the golf tournament by having dinner with his caddie. "Neil is really misunderstood. People say that he's not approachable, or that he's anti-social, simply not the case. Let me tell you how anti-social this guy is. He got up from the table, mid-dinner, and started juggling the hot garlic flavored biscuits quoting Mark Twain and Hunter S. Thompson--WOW!!! Can't wait to have him on the show. You know he's been on Politically Incorrect, and actually interviewed/grilled prime minister candidates on television? This guy is no amateur." Further details will be released when the show will air. I dug up this old copy.
