3. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

4. Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

5. Metallica - Ride the Lightning

6. Slayer - Reign in Blood

7. Megadeth - Rust in Peace

8. Tool - AEnima

9. Opeth - Blackwater Park

10. Tool - Lateralus

(11. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast)

Okay, not very varied and predictable... But I guess that's what all all-time lists are like.

78. Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Other Side

101. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I

140. Gamma Ray - Land of the Free

159. Blind Guardian - Nightfall on Middle Earth

161. Riot - ThunderSteel

168. Kamelot - The Black Halo

175. Virgin Steele - The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part Two

436. Cloven Hoof - A Sultans Ransom

446. Gamma Ray - Somewhere out in Space

456. Virgin Steele - The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: Part One

464. Kamelot - Epica

478. Helstar - A Distant Thunder

486. Running Wild - Pile of Skulls

492. Wintersun - Wintersun

Surprised Stratovarius's "Visions" didn't make the cut.

Guess Sad Wings Of Destiny isn't considered metal after all..... :eh:

very weird that tool and opeth beat it but those bands are more popular than that priest record. even though it is the best priest and beats most of the list, and definitely beats all those power metal albums

Sad Wings ranks at 35.

mr. isnot, you don't like iced earth, helloween, gamma ray, running wild, jag panzer or riot but power metal's the only genre of metal you'll tolerate?

EDIT: my bad, I forgot dream theater.

My taste in metal is really limited. I do enjoy some Helloween (Halloween), Gamma Ray (lust for life), but I can't say I've listened to their albums much. I haven't heard much of Jag Panzer or Riot. For these four bands, I cannot say I dislike the bands whatsoever, I just haven't listened to them much. At worst I'm just not interested. I do not like Iced Earth, chalk that up to the vocals. The  s I added to the power metal album listings really indicate that they're albums I enjoy listening through more than anything else.

I definitely do not consider myself a metal head, or a fan of metal. Just a rock guy.

Angra, Blind Guardian, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius... That's about the extent of my plebeian metal taste (though I'm sure I'll kick myself later for overlooking 2 or 3 bands)

Well done. Couldn't argue this point better!

...Nightwish sucks :madra:

Nightwish have their epic moments of pure awesome...and some really naff stuff that does little for me, but gives my Stereo good reason for having an Off button!

Kamelot? I consider them symphonic metal, not power metal. Unless you're combining the two categories.

They're definitely both.

as soon as I saw the list I knew everyone would jump on ACDC. I actually don't consider them as metal either but funny thing is, I can't explain why !?! Lol

I think if you take the good songs on blizzard and diary you have a great album. you take all his good songs after that and put em on a disc and you have a nice EP.

If you take all the great songs on Blizzard and Diary you have 2 great albums. Blizzard. And Diary. :)

Lacuna Coil sounds like some sort of birth control device.

LOL!!!

I've tried many times to get into that band. Pure boring same old heavy riff crap with synthesizers that will pierce your eardrums. All of those female lead singing metal "blands" sound the same. Night Wish comes to mind as well. UGH!

Give me Girlschool or The Runaways instead!

These may be your favourite bands and it's all right, but they all own HUGE debts from the previous generations.

I've never heard them but from the name I'd have trouble taking them seriously.

Absolutely. Lacuna Coil a better metal band than Slayer?

Nope.

But I love Lacuna Coil. So there.

As for not getting into LC, I completely understand why one would really dislike their sound, but I just love them to death. As for Nightwish, they are only their because I couldn't think of any other band!

I used to love metal. Nowadays I really don't.

My list proves that haha!

Good list, but think Slayer and Pantera are too high. While I like AC/DC more than every band listed with the exception of Sabbath and Maiden, I agree theyre not metal. My Top 5:

1)Sabbath

2)Maiden

3)Metallica

4)Priest

5)Megadeth
