Invisible To Telescopic Eye
Cilantro...I don't know if it's an herb or veggie but I love it!!! I just did a wiki search and it is an herb also called Coriander.
Digital Man
Tarlek....sorry, couldn't resist. Rosemary and thyme are great for poultry. I put 5-6 whole stems of each inside a turkey when I roast one. Cilantro is great in salsa, it really adds flavor.

1 of the 7
Too many to list - oregano, garlic, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, rosemary, thyme, curry, ginger, and dill are faves. Lots of the basics - salt and pepper, too. I'm even one of those crazy people who likes fennel and anise (the black licorice tasting ones). My LEAST favorite is mint. I can only tolerate mint in combination with chocolate. I used to grow my own herbs years ago - it really becomes a love affair when one does. Tarkus406
Cinnamon takes the cake (and makes it taste better too) the herb(s) I cant STAND are fennel, anise, and caraway I like licorice but hate italian sausage because of fennel and hate most brands of "everything" bagels because they put those caraway seeds on them. Ruins it completely.
summer_sky
I think cinnamon and anise, as good as they may be, are spices, not herbs. I think fennel is a veggie... I used to grow it in my garden (and LOVE it)... and I'm not sure about caraway. Gotta look into caraway Edited February 26, 2011 by summer_sky
summer_sky
Basil... is my 2nd favorite herb. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/summer_sky/Basil.jpg Basil is delicious in soups, sauces, as a seasoning to meats, poultry and fish and just very refreshing fresh. Basil can be blended with a nice olive oil to make pesto. I like to make a batch of pesto and freeze it in an ice cube tray for use in the winter as a seasoning for stews and soups or to toss into al dente pasta. My favorite way to use fresh basil is to make a summer salad with: fresh basil leaves rough chopped/slightly bruised to bring out the natural oils, thick slices of homegrown tomato, thin slices of buffalo mozzarella cheese, chopped fresh garlic, a pinch of sea salt, fresh cracked black pepper, and finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. yummy! HowItIs
Oh, herbs! One of my favorite topics We grow lots of herbs in our sunroom-cum-Tiki Bar and we use them all the time. Oregano, Basil, marjoram, sage, mint, catnip, lavender, thyme, tarragon, rosemary.... we grow a few different kinds of each. The lemon thyme is sooooo good with chicken and fish. My favorite is basil, though. When our tomatoes ripen, I will go out there and "graze," nomming a small tomato and a leaf of basil together. Oh man, it's so yummy! I'm also a journeyman herbalist and use herbs medicinally. I wildcraft many of the medicinal herbs (gather from the wild) as we have a large spread with different habitats (wetland, forest, meadow) and lots of stuff grows here. invisibleairwaves
Definitely mint. Had a few different varieties at home when I was working at a garden centre, but then college got all crazy and I couldn't take care of them. Useful and delicious in so many ways. Running Rebel
QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Mar 1 2011, 03:52 PM) Nice set up Reb! My vote goes to Basil. I use tons of basil and rosemary both. I have a mini garden box not pictured that I grow tons of peppers. What I don't use I dry out and use during the winter or create seasoning packets I give to my kids to use. Lately I've been on a veggie pizza binge, with lots of peppers, tomatoes, shrooms, and topped with cilantro and avocado on a whole wheat crust. I add hot sauce to mine but the wifey doesn't. During the summer I add all kinds of fresh herbs on top of the mix though and do them on the grill.

HowItIs
Okay, let's look at the first herb mentioned... Rosemary is used for headaches, as well as for nervous complaints. It is an effective treatment against dandruff, used as a hair rinse. It can also be used in mouth washes and gargles. Apply topically to stimulate circulation. Here's a few pictures of our sunroom-cum-Tiki Bar/garden: http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd103/laserspray/33407_131808023522804_1000008082195.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd103/laserspray/bigtable.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd103/laserspray/sage.jpg
