Tick
Grunge wins hand down for me. Bands like Poison, Cinderella, and Warrant just suck! There are exceptions to both genres. For example, I like a band like Whitesnake, and don't like a band like Nirvana, but overall, I'll take grunge to hair metal anyday. Back in the day I was really into, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots. I hated bands like White Lion, Brittany Fox and Faster Pussycat. Thank you grunge for putting this crap in its grave and being creative again! I have a feeling hair metal wins this poll, but I want to see the results. circumstantial tree
Tick, I can tell my post in the other thread inspired this. I pick hair metal over grunge. Poison was "OK" and I never cared for Warrant. I liked Motley Crue, Cinderella, some Ratt. I didn't dislike grunge, but it stole the whole idea of "alternative" and made it non-alternative. H. P. L.
Grunge for me. Back in the 80s I hated Hair Metal, now I can see the funny (sometimes unintentionally so) side of it. But still, grunge was a tidal wave of creativity.

Those days were like living in music hell for me. Grunge restored my faith in all that is good and descent in this world. (corny, I know. but, hair metal to this day makes me nauseous.) Lady April
Grunge for me. The West Seattle Nirvana and Alice in Chains fix was plenty. Was nice to see lame hair and spandex action go away. Was not hot in my book Grunge was loud and exciting. Hell yes it was Black Sabbath another notch up but very accepted by Ozzy and Mike Inez even came to Seattle to play with Chains then going back to Ozzy in the interim for his tours. Tick, your post is pretty much spot on with what I think. I love Whitesnake...but outside of a few songs here and there, I never really got into those "hair bands". The only difference is, I love Nirvana too. They are really the first band that got me into music, and rock music at that. So, they mean alot to me on a personal level. With that said, I never really followed AIC back then, and it really disappoints me as I LOVE them now. Got into them last year, and have collected every album since...better late than never I guess! So yeah, Grunge wins for me because it was really the style that got me into music in the first place.

Hatchetaxe&saw
Grunge. It had many faults, but it made ordinary kids want to play guitars again. Early '90's it was all techno-wank on one side and fret-wankery on the other side.
