Hail fellow Rush metal-heads!

From a few comments and signatures I've seen around and about the forums there are a few headbangers like myself kicking around this place.

While my musical tastes are quite varied - outside of Rush I find myself MORE and MORE into the heavy stuff the last several years. Here are some of my favorite bands the last while!

Iced Earth

Children of Bodom

Well, first off, Metalocaplyse is an amazing show.

And secondly... a list of amazing metal bands:

!T.O.O.H.! (if I have to label them, I guess I'd say technical death metal)

Abruptum (Noise/Black metal)

Agoraphobic Nosebleed (Grindcore/Cybergrind)

Arcturus (prog metal with a bit of black thrown in I guess)

Mayhem (black metal... they were good until Dead commited suicide)

Napalm Death (great classic death/grind... not any good nowadays)

Morbid Angel (great death when they have David Vincent)

Cattle Decapitation (their first EP [only released on 7" I believe] is some amazing thrash/grind)

Cryptopsy (top notch death metal... sucks that Lord Worm's out again)

Darkthrone (great old black metal band)

Deathspell Omega (another great BM outfit)

Diabolical Masquerade (he did some pretty cool black stuff)

Emperor (yet ANOTHER classic black band)

Heavy Heavy Low Low (one of the best active heavy acts today... slowed down grind-ish stuff)

Metallica (pretty much mandatory mention... great speed metal-ish stuff in the old days)

Opeth (can't leave them out... put out some incredible material in the 90's)

Pig Destroyer (38 Counts of Battery is one of my favourite grindcore records ever)

Sikth (pretty good and still active prog/math metal band... check 'em out)

Spastic Ink (amazing guitarwork in this tech/math metal group... Ron Jarzombek is pretty insane)

Watchtower (another old band that had Ron Jarzombek... if anybody here likes Spiral Architect, check WT out... SA pretty much completely ripped them off)

Ulver (made some amazing electronic music, but their first three albums were great black metal)

To name a few...

*EDITED* to give Storm Shadow kudos for mentioning Job For A Cowboy, The Human Abstract, Suffocation and Amon Amarth... good bands.

My choices are a lot more "mainstream" than the picks so far.

Iron Maiden (awesome!)

Dio

Black Sabbath/Ozzy

Metallica

(Do Hard Rock acts like VanHalen and Rainbow count? Queen? Led Zeppelin? Living Colour?)

Nice to see some other fans here - and some wicked bands on your lists...

Here I thought I was the only one on Earth who enjoys Strapping Young Lad. I am still half way deaf from seeing them at Foufoune's in Monteral a couple winters back. Holy SHIT they were loud.

Amon Amarth gets a lot of my airplay time too.

Na, there are MANY who love Devin and Strapping. He is my 2nd favourite artists very closely behind Rush. Bad news recently, though, he's retiring SYL, the DTB and from touring!!!

That's a thorough list kazz - and shitloads of awesome bands there.

Iced Earth is one of the best live performances I ever did see. Probably makes my Top 5 live bands performances seen.

On another note... I'll have a new axe soon. Buying one of Christian Olde Wolbers (OF FEAR FACTORY) guitars from him - he's gonna have the band sign it and stuff.

How awesome is that? I can't afford to buy a guitar as a show piece but I am unworthy to play his guitar. What will I do!?!

There is sooooooo much good metal out there and always new things waiting to be discovered.

I used be founder for #mp3_metal Dalnet back in the days but lately I've found it really difficult to keep current with metal. I've actually been listening to a lot of HARD ATTAK on Sirius satellite and I find it's awesome - although there are a handful of bands that inexplicably never get airplay - Arch Enemy and Cradle of Filth are two that come to mind.

Anyways you all can bet I'll be trying to check out some of your favorite bands if I wasn't familiar enough with them before.

*thrash*

Ahhh man Suffocation RIPS!

I'm not super familiar with any one particular album - I'll be sure to check that one out!

yes.gif

Pierced from Within and Effigy of the Forgotten are classics, but I don't think they've ever made a bad album. That self-titled one that came out last year shows they still have it too. Best live death metal band too...again IMO, but I love them! 1022.gif

That's a great list but where THE F*** is SLAYER!!!!

Cannibal Corpse and Deicide should get atleast honorable mentions.

Also: The chick from Arch Enemy just blows me away.

Slayer
Fear Factory
Nevermore

I like these bands as well...

I consider myself a true metalhead, and it's hard to think of ALL the bands I'm either into, or have been heavily into at some point in time. The first ones to come to mind are:

Judas Preist

Iron Maiden

Pantera

Anthrax

Mastodon

Megadeth

Ozzy

Opeth

Damn! I know there are so many more, but I can't think of them right now sad.gif But this gives you an idea! biggrin.gif
