Here's the funnest standard I've ever owned.. I rode this thing from Edmonton to Toronto and back in 2010. Why? To see a couple Rush shows in their home town of course :)

I've had,

1987 Toyota 4Runner

1991 VW Jetta

1997 Honda Accord i4

2003 Honda Accord V6

All manuals. Been looking for a reasonable budget "get me by" car for a month, and demanding a manual trans has made the search hard. On an engineer's salary later this year I'm looking at buying a new, manual Jeep Wrangler.

Gonna see how long I can go with saying "I've never owned an auto"

I once owned this vehicle...but when it turned 10 years old.......it had a gas leak ...and went up in flames on the highway. I was not inside thank god.

There are not too many of the old CJs left. They rusted so bad. :(

Oh yeah, and I've also owned a bunch of motorcycles which all had their own form of standard transmissions.

No one ever taught me how to drive a manual transmission car, I just knew how to do it. I never really thought about it at the time. I always thought it was odd that people didn't know how to drive a manual transmission car. But in giving it some thought, it occurred to me that it was because of growing up riding dirt bikes. The concept of a clutch was as natural to me as a gas pedal.

I made sure all of my kids knew how to drive manual transmission cars. Whenever one of my daughters had to teach a guy she was dating how to drive one, he'd lose a few points with me.

Ya it's sad but luckily you can build an entire jeep CJ out of catalog.. mine had an aftermarket aluminum body which is why there's no raised 'jeep' logo on the fender Like chickenhawk's. I still have my eyes open for an original CJ5 with a decent body. I'll probably be looking forever!

My father has a good friend who had a CJ5. I went with him on a Jeep Jamberee trip to the Smokey Mts once. That was a good time!

My first stick shift (my second car) was one of these. I loved the color!

One thing that sucked about the IROC Z...you could only get the 350 in an automatic. :| If you wanted to shift, you had to go with less power and get the 305. :(

Nice. Would it be correct to assume that your V Dub has a lot more rust than that one?

I just bought a 1:18 scale one of these, a '66 Karman Ghia in coral, they had a bk.blue and cream one, but I wanted a UNIQUE colored one! They used to have one in Orange, but I already had a beetle in that color. (A '52)

Standard,

In the snow! :D-13: I had a Chevy Luv long bed back in the 80's. It kicked ass with no studded tires. I miss driving it.

I don't know if there was ever a vehicle that rusted faster than the Chevy Luv.

I had it restored to just about that condition, actually. Some color...brilliant chrome.

I'd have to hunt for those...

Sadly, I totalled it in college. Got hit broadside by a van.

Did the van driver die from being such an A-hole? http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Angry/angryatomic-1.gif

I love love love a manual Transmission! They last longer, they are not over computerized monstrosities and as much as the salesmen will preach to the contrary, they will get better gas mileage than new transmissions and definitely better in older cars! Funny story when I was at the dealership looking for my wife's new ride, the salesman went as far to tell me standard transmissions were no longer available because nobody wanted them. I reminded him that Honda still offered the 6 speed manual as a stock option and those vehicle's were about $700 less than the automatic. 70% of new car problems and complaints are with new automatic transmission reliability issues. Honda's 2015 Accord 6 speed manual shifts like butter and makes a basic model car a blast to drive. Which is my most favorite reasons for having a standard tranny.

Also my wife love driving a stick shift the 1st car she learned on was a 1994 Mazda MX3 which was a little bullet. Here is a pic of my wife's car before we bought the 2015. It was a 2010 Accord and yes it was a 5 speed ;)
