This post seperation of Gilmour and Waters was a well received album. with the songs Keep Talking, High Hopes, What do you Want from me, Wearing the Inside out, Lost for Words, and Pole Apart, What critic could slam this album? Actually, I am not sure how this album stayed off the first 500.

I guess it's my turn now. :)

552. Down on the Upside - Soundgarden (New World Man)

I remember a guy pretending he was sobbing lamenting the fact that this band broke up back when I was almost ready to graduate college. I had it on cassette back then. Unfortunately it's the only Soundgarden I've ever owned. Now I have it on cd. I know some of the others apparently are worthy of this list(from what I've heard especially "Superunknown" which I havent' heard except for a few songs). Anyway, this one, "Down on the Upside" has lots of good to great songs and not much filler and even if there is filler it's listenable. This band were pioneers in the Seattle grunge scene but to call this a typical grunge album(and I admit there is that element)would be doing it a disservice. Fortunately, the band re united a few years ago and are back on track now. It's good to hear this album again(and on cd)after so many years.

So are you making that number 550 or are you just mentioning that album? ;)

550, whatever, put it on there somewhere.

I used to have passion and warfare and really liked that one. I don't know this one so I'll have to check it out at some point.

It's his debut from January '84. Steve left Zappa's band in late '82, I believe.

545. Yes - Big Generator (Narps)

546. Judas Priest - British Steel (Lucas)

Rapid Fire rocks as much as any Priest song ever, and while British Steel was the transition album to a slightly different feel, it still remains a classic, and does have songs that harken back to the classic 70s sound

This one put the nail in their coffin for me. Breakin' The Law and Living After Midnight were the last shovel loads of dirt to bury them. I guess having said that somewhere outside the top 500 it probably belongs...

Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law were songs written to be singles which there is nothing wrong with. I get why some might not care for them. I really don't care if I ever heard LAM again but BTL has a rocking riff and is a decent song. Have you heard this album, Narps? You don't like Rapid Fire, Metal Gods, Grinder, The Rage or Steeler? Those are some very good tunes. In the case of Rapid Fire, one of the best songs they've ever done.

Yeah, they tweaked their sound to fit going into a new decade. But the sound on this album is still undeniably Judas Priest all the way through.

It was my gateway drug into the wider universe of JP, at the time that British Steel was new.. One of my fave bands, and I really dig the Sin after Sin and Sad Wings albums.,

Sort of like how Moving Pictures (limelight) was my gateway to Rush, when MP was new.

So a popular, slightly slicker, album brings in some fans, so what? Sometimes we stick around for life.

Always loved me some Travers. I only got to see them once opening for AC/DC in 79'. Incredible show...

Fantastic and underrated prog band, and this album is my favorite from them ( right now ) .. the comparisons to Yes are justified, but in my book, that is a good thing .... A very enjoyable album

Hey, if anyone on here has heard any other Soundgarden albums, Temple of the Dog or even Stone Temple Pilots or Pearl Jam(that you think deserve to be on here) don't be afraid to post them. I know there's an Alice in Chains album on here which is cool since they are one of my favorite bands from the 90's. Also, while I'm thinking of the 90's I don't think there is any Tori Amos on here either. Edited by New_World_Man

I'm getting ready to bring some 90s albums out

But I was never into the grunge or Seattle style from that era

I had Pulp's Different Class in the 500, which is an album I love

.. for the heck of it, I'm just going to post this thread as a link in some of the ( boring ) main forums topics

There are literally 20 pages debating whether Permanent Waves is a 70s or 80s album

oy vey

That's stupid. It's obviously a 70s album.

It would be tough for folks to come into this thing this late as they wouldn't have to memory what has already been posted. Having said that I hope some others join in. It would be nice... :)

This is what is looked like after the Top 500 was completed

http://www.coolallnight.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/exhaustion.jpg

...we were born to run.

Did that album make it?

You do know that the best BS song ever is on there.

I thought all his songs were BS

??

.

.

just kiddin'

Actually, Segue has got me listening, and I'm really liking some of the songs I'd never heard ... like Drive All Night

Born To Run was #82 on the big list
