This album is better than Octavarium

i'll agree as an album it's probably better then Octavarium the album.

But nothing on their beats the track Octavarium.

Mick

You find that song way more appealing than me haha

Looking over The Astonishing, even the best songs from that album fall short compared to the good songs of almost every previous album. The only song on there that is truly worthwhile seems to be Gift of Music. Edited by Mr. Not

I honestly don't have a single song. Not one that I like.

I won't be buying this album. So...the debut next and I'm complete studio album wise!

I love it in parts. Not as a whole.

o'm kidding........i get ya.

Mick

I played it the other day...got bored...nearly stopped it then it got magical.

Repeated it. Same thing...

It's just very good. 7/10 from me.

I can't tell you how happy i am to see DT There. you really struggled with them.

Glad they won the battle, lol

It just sounded too showy offy. Like Nightwish, I had to wade through a lot of style to find the substance.

Which is OK as even when it got annoying I kept finding nuggets reeling me back in for more!

Listened to both Octavarium & Self-titled today... Now that I've adapted to that snare sound (for the most part), I gotta agree that DT is better than Octavarium.

like i said i earlier as an album i agree. but that title track trumps the self titled

IMO anyway.

I honestly think the self titled just replaced Octavarium as my favourite full on melodic DT album. It is a masterpiece.

Every song is better as well...aside from These Walls which is honestly pretty much my favourite DT song.

And don't ask me why it is I can't answer that haha

Also just bought my first Sonata Arctica albums:

Ecliptica, Reckoning Night and Unia.

These won't be my last!

I used to really get offended when I saw a good amount of dislikes on new Sonata songs (which has been happening since Unia), but now I actually like it.

Gonna just copy/paste my comment from the "Closer to an Animal" lyric video where I explain why:

I'm glad to see the dislikes, as Frank Zappa would say: it proves that they're doing something right. I'm also glad Old Sonata is gone. The first four albums are still there and you can still listen to them (I enjoy them myself), but let's not rehash the same accessible power metal songs any longer, eh? I'm happy that Tony is continuing on in making new original music. He practically has his own unique brand of progressive metal at this point. Pasi's also done wonders for this band, he's really added a lot of cool riffs into the mix with this newer work. First there was Power Arctica, then there was Prog Arctica.. Now we have Pasi Arctica. 5/5 song.
