Been kicking around getting my CCW.
Suggestions for a compact semi auto? And I can't be spending 5 bills, either.

I have been shopping compact pistols and I think you are going to have a hard time getting something quality for under $500. I have resided myself to a price tag closer to $650.

I don't mind getting a Kel-Tec if I have to. They are pretty decent for the $. Might have to check out some used ones, too.

Looked at those.  They're kinda pricey aren't they?

Well, you said your ceiling was five bills so I took that to mean 5 grand but after your response I see you meant 5 hundred. My bad.

Before you buy Kel-Tec, check out Taurus. I've two of their pistols (a Judge and the full-size PT 24/7 OSS in .45 caliber) and they make good stuff! I think this would suit you best: PT 24/7 compact. I linked to the .45 version, but it's available in other calibers. I simply have a bias toward .45 acp! laugh.gif

This sums up my feelings pretty well:

Or, in the immortal words of the equally immortal Colonel Jeff Cooper: ".45 ball stops 'em all!"

I had a friend who had one of those, nice pistol. That's what replaced the Luger.

Awesome! I've always wondered how the performance of the CZ-82's polygonal rifling compares to standard rifling. Make sure you shoot only the 9 x 18 Makharov ammo and never 9mm Parabellum!

Many congrats on the new shootin' iron!

Everything I've heard about the polygonal rifling is positive. Everything I have researched on the web says it is one of the most accurate guns there is. While I had it in my hand looking at it at the show, two separate guys walked up within 3 minutes of each other saying how it is the most accurate handgun they have, and how the trigger is butter smooth. The second guy even pulled his out of his back holster to show me his that he carries.

It also helped that even though these are mostly only 20-something years old, they are C&R eligible too.

Very nice Cygnus!

Present to myself:

Remington 870 Express Super Mag

I'm going to pick up a couple of slug barrels. One for deer hunting, the other as short as I can make it for home protection.

Awesome, brother! I cut my shotgunner's eyeteeth on an 870. Very nice weapon!
