Working the midnight shift

This week, for the first time since 2001, I am working an overnight tour. This is so unhealthy. My food choices are terrible and limited. Also my sleep cycle will be screwed up for a week at least.

Does anyone else work late shift often? And what do you do to get through them?

I work more of a swing shift,

3-11 or 12 pm. Been doing it since March of this year. Back in the day it wasn't really a big deal because I was a lot younger. With this job, it took me a good two months to get adjusted. You need to be patient and just get used to the time change. Go about it slow and try not to get to frustrated. You will be fine. The same with your diet, adjust slowly. Just remember that you have a job and thats the most important thing. Also, its a good experience for later on if you end up having to work the same hours for another employer.

Good luck!

I alternate between 12 hour day shifts and 12 hour night shifts. Four day shifts, then four days off. Four night shifts, then fours days off. I've been doing this for just about 8 years.

:codger: :dweez: :notworthy:

I remember those days. :7up:

When I first started in radio (back in, oh, the 1800s) I worked graveyards, 2-6 am Saturday night/Sunday morning. (Turns out that's not a bad shift because people are up all night partying and listening.) Then during most of the 90s I DJed at nightclubs, sometimes during the week, sometimes on weekends, often two nights a week, and would be up until 3-5 am. All this on top of working a regular day job. I was fine with it all while it was happening, but I also would nap a lot and sleep in until 11 or noon on weekends. That all ended about 14 years ago (when I was in my mid-30s) and there is no way I could work those hours anymore.

So you were a radio DJ kind of like her...... :)

Crazy things can happen...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fc/Night_shift.jpg

That Barney Rubble. What an actor!

I tend to work crazy hours (IT). Day shift mostly, but support is 24 x 7. with a window of 02:00 to 06:00, so there are a lot of early mornings if there's a disruptive change occurring.

The cycle can be very disruptive to circadian rhythms.

Maybe I should start an escort service out of the county morgue?

I finally started a 7-5 gig, days, last Tuesday after working , for most of the past 4 years, overnights. My schedule was first 6-6, 3 nights on, 2 off , then 2 on , then 3 off. Then at another place it was 5-5.

The overnights beat me up. I'll never do it again. Tough to keep a good diet, exercise plan, and a normal social existence. I managed it, but I actually took a slight pay cut with this new company.

Quality of life indeed.
